Our recruiting from 09 - 12 has been discussed extensively on MMB. It's obvious today with how many freshmen and soph. are starting that those years were underwhelming and not very fruitful compared to years past.
"discussed" doesn't make it all necessarily true.
Right. Jrs and Srs getting benched for Freshman and Sophomores make it true. Thanks for the thoughtful input.
That's only part of the story. Satterfield's strategy of building the team for the future plays a role. If there is a close fit in talent, he chooses the younger guy.
Question. Aren't some of the players from the '09-'12 classes playing in the NFL and CFL?
BTW. Thanks for your arrogant reply.

So without cherry picking a player here and there, we haven't experienced ANY drop off in quality recruiting classes since '08?

Sam Martin might be the only one at this point.

2. -I fully believe Scott just doesn't have the ability to motivate the players. Even during the soon to be very distant "glory years" the assistants weren't all that strong, but Coach Moore had the ability to harness emotion and strength. Satterfield comes off as a whiner, Oct 11
3. - The WR situation is something new to us. For the first time is a long time we have a weakness at WR. The Bobo and Simms Fresh crew will never get it done, even if Peyton Manning was back there throwing balls. Those two would likely be a FCS team's #2 or #3 WRs. They have zero explosion once they catch the ball, are always tackled by the first guy, and will never out physical a FBS DB for a ball. Oct 11

#3 is the only one that should not have been posted in an open forum. Good discussion point around a tailgate but I don't think we should degrade our players. Have I done it, probably at some point. The rest about Scott is frustrated fan talk. Scott make a quarter mil ++ to produce excellence at the point when those were posted we had not seen much of. We can talk till we are blue in the face about "give a mountaineer a chance" but you have to admit things looked pretty grim after the Liberty game.

It's cherry picking when it doesn't fit the narrative. Not saying there hasn't been a drop off. Just saying it isn't necessarily as drastic as some would have you think. I'm surprised we recruited squat with opponents reminding recruits and parents that Moore was getting old and each year could be his last.
As to Martin, he may be the only one left...I don't follow the pros. But weren't there several still hanging around on rosters in some form or other as late as last summer?

Kilgore and Quick were starting before injuries. Quick had scored several TDs and was actually the top target for the Rams. Kilgore was starting center for SF. Both will be back next year I am sure.

actually buffalo it took me less than 5 minutes - wouldn't waste much more than that on your initial posts full of dislike and disrespect and that doesn't even include your asinine comments to FIREMOOSE--- And no Appbio91 I wasn't saying that all of what I posted had no place on the MMB - just that from day 1 of his posts he has shown a deep disregard for our coaches - Yes, the Liberty game was the low-point and all of us had questions but very few started screaming to fire the coaches ---

Saying there wasn't a drastic drop off in quality classes is your opinion. I base my perspective on the class from top to bottom. Not the 1 or 2 players that get drafter or signed to a practice squad.
Also, regarding your JM comment, that's an excuse that gets brought up any time anyone criticizes his last few classes. Plain and simple.

The guy had an issue with Satt from 10+ years ago and assumes he hasn't changed or gotten better as a coach. Looking forward to seeing Satt prove him wrong.

Quick was part of the '07 recruiting class and Kilgore was part of the '06. Neither of these were part of the '08-'12 classes that saw a drop off.

It is an excuse that is widely used in any program which is involving a change in leadership across the country. Are you saying you wouldn't consider it if it was your child?

So which do you claim? That we had poor recruiting classes because of other programs ripping JM being old? Or that JM was able to overcome these accusations and put together strong classes?

J, You didn't answer my question
Too, the purpose of 66's starting of this thread seemed to be that things weren't bad enough for people still wanting Satterfield fired. Things must not be as bad as your hyperbole claims.
We still finished 8-4 JM's last year. Oh that's right, our opposition sucked and we were lucky.

My statements regarding our current situation have been reasonable. Where do you see hyperbole?
I feel we underachieved in recruiting during the period I referenced. In other words, we could've done better. That doesn't mean we threw in the towel and only recruited from Watauga, Avery and Ashe.
Again, no hyperbole. I'm just putting the pieces of what I see together.
