Re: We suck
We don't suck. But Saturday on the field was embarrassing. We have to build the program and earn the respect we want. That'll take time. Until then, we might be better off looking at five home games fairly often. A million plus payday (UF, FSU, UGA, USC, CU, VaTech?, UT...) and a 500K plus payday in the SEC, traditional ACC region. Money and exposure and a handful of P5 wins.

Re: We suck
Well my fear is that we were. We had sucked them all into believing and they bought it. There will be a backlash from the national opinion makers because we looked like we did not belong on the field. It will be alot harder going forward for them to let us. or anyone else on this level, have a seat a the table. That is my whole issue with this performance, not that we lost but what we lost by the way we lost.HeffnerIV wrote:Far ahead. We're already a media darling, we play on ESPN and we're already very competitive in our conference. I'm hurting as much as the next guy but we can easily break yesterday's loss down to a few things: tackling, penalties, overmatched outside and QB, and slow play calls on D. We can fix three of those by next week and the fourth won't be near the disadvantage the rest of the yearJTApps1 wrote:People easily forget that. Didn't even read all this, been avoiding getting on due to my disappointment.
Only things that worry me, RB health/depth, our WRs/passing game, our DBs.

"Only things." You just described every facet of the game except for kicking, which should also worry you. I was ok with losing, I was not ok with losing by 4 scores and looking like we did not belong to stand on the field with them. We can't sugar coat that it was really ugly and unfortunately we don't have years of dominance at this level built up to be cut some slack like FSUs get when this happens.
On a side note, I see the same individuals who say things like "we belong" "we will win" "don't post a prediction unless it has App winning" and truly believe that we have arrived turn around when we have a disappointing loss and tell people "not to blame the coaches or the players" "it was just a bad game" "we just got started at FBS." Those narratives don't align. If we truly belong or deserve to be on the same field we must begin to play like it and it is ok to hold bboth the players and the coaches accountable. I am not saying be mean or hateful but this is the top division of football.
If a team is good at passing you should put a game plan in place that doesn't call for the defensive backs to play 5-8 yds off the WRs. If iso right up the middle on every first down is not working, you need to switch it up. If you are a WR and the QB hits you in the hands over the middle you have to hold on to it no matter how much its going to hurt. If you are the QB for an elite team you need to be able to throw a pass over 8 yds without the receiver always having to come back to the ball. If you are a kicker you need to be able to hit a field goal that is past 20 yds. These are not unreasonable expectations, especially if you believe, or even want to believe that your program can be elite. Saturday was embarrassing and we all know it whether we want to admit it or not. We cannot drink our own koolaid, NDSU is beating P5s to back up their reputation as a giant killer all the way from the FCS ranks. We need to beat one more than once every decade to spread our lofty perception of the Apps to those outside the fan base. I hope we begin to see that change.

Re: We Don't Suck - weakness exposed
Dislike thread title a lot
Miami clearly exploited our defensive weaknesses. So many times we successfully put them in the 3rd and long position and then we got burned with a long pass for huge gains. However, we put forward a stout run defense and forced the pass - we just could not contend with it when it happened.
If you look at Miami's two previous games, they led with a run-heavy offense. This has been their most productive passing game so far.
Against FA&M (70-3) - 150 yds passing (4 passing TDs); 373 yds rushing (5 rushing TDs; 3 players over 100 yards)
Against FAU (38-10)- 191 yds passing (0 passing TDs); 279 yds rushing (5 rushing TDs; 2 players over 100 years)
Against App (45-10) - 385 yads passing (3 passing TDs); 164 yds rushing (3 rushing TDs; 1 player 100+yds, next had 30 yds)
With large, quick gains in passing and our offense having trouble gaining traction, they got the ball back quickly - of course with an opportunity to score each time. We did get some pressure on Kaaya, as the game progressed, but not consistently enough or early enough to stop this deadly pattern.

Re: We suck
Not trying to sugar coat and agree it was ugly but we got beat by their athletes. I really would have expected to get blown out of the trenches against UT and UM but that did not happen. Miami beat us with speed and a great arm. You can take a kid and bulk him up and give him the heart and drive to hang with a 3 or 4 star guard but you can't build speed and the the P5 guys will always get size and speed. Think about how many times we held them to 3rd and long. The goal line stand. We are a few athletes from being right there. It was ugly no doubt but I was not embarrassed and any reasonable person knew going in that result was a possibility.

Re: We Don't Suck - weakness exposed
Funny we were typing similar thoughts simultaneously. Thanks for the numbers. Again 164 yrds on the ground and I think that was a 60 or 70 yarder on the first play. Like I said a few athletes in the secondary and we are playing with them on D. Someone else posted already but I have to think the Gibbs loss hurt us in this game.tjpappy wrote:Dislike thread title a lot

Re: We suck
All - I have followed Yosef's cabin for quite some time & this is my first time posting. I do want to throw in my two cents-worth, some of which has been said already:
Defense
- We are very solid up front, but secondary needs some work. They are young and inexperienced, but will come around eventually.
- Tackling was a major issue on Saturday. Our guys were trying to deliver the knockout blow. Good contact at first, but forgot the most important part, wrapping up. Pretty evident on the first play from scrimmage
- We will not face another QB this year like the one we saw on Saturday. Kayaa is a good QB. He is accurate and has a strong arm. Granted a good bit of his passes were off of bubble screens, etc., but we never seemed to adjust & they did it all game long.
Offense:
- Obviously, the running game is our biggest threat to opposing teams. Marcus Cox is a workhorse, but we need others to step up if he cannot go. We have RBs that have the ability to do so.
- Lamb looked scared in the pocket on Saturday. He had happy feet the majority of the game. Not much zip behind the balls that he throws.
- We have to attempt to throw the ball down the field. It is something we have yet to show we have the ability to do. Opposing teams will continue to recognize that, will stack the box and force us to beat them down the field.
Special Teams:
- I do not have much to say here, but we can only get better in the kicking game (FGs).
We do not suck. As pointed out in previous posts, we played (and lost to) 2 P5 teams that are currently a combined 6-0 this season & both ranked. We just need a bounce-back game this week against Akron and to continue that momentum into conference play. Lots of football left to be played.

We had a lot of problems that need to get fixed.
The thread title sounds like a State fan and that is not something we should aspire to be.

Re: We suck
Posted this in another thread and have been avoiding this one because of the STUPID TITLE - Miami had the long TD run on the their first play - the rest of the game they totaled 84 yards on 30 carries - THAT IS DAMNED STRONG RUN DEFENSE - Kayaa and their WRs and TEs are NFL players waiting to become draftable --- If Cox's run hadn't been called back (the hold was not on an OLman) he would have had 120 yards on 8 carries IN THE FIRST QUARTER - Not much good happened after that TD was called back and Cox was lost for the day - I think some of you guys are the same ones who wanted all the coaches fired 2 years ago - posted FOR SALE signs in front of "Satterfield's house" - called Woody an idiot - Personally, I am sick of you numbnuts --- I guess Jimbo Fisher who won a national championship 2 years and Saturday his #2 NATIONALLY RANKED TEAM lost by 43 points is also now an idiot as well - Even the best teams catch another team on a day when all goes right for the opponent and all goes wrong for them - it happens, this is big time college football --- Anyone who has a brain, please go to the WE DON'T SUCK thread for comments - I will make no more here --- This one is for losers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: We suck
Wasn't everything. Like our OL and Running game and like the front 7 on D. PK we knew with a F kicker to have issues. Punting is normally good, not sure what happened on a couple again UM.MtnMan09 wrote:biggie wrote:Didn't even read all this, been avoiding getting on due to my disappointment.
