Marketing help
After reading several posts this morning, I noticed several folks making suggestions on how to help marketing with awareness of our team and game day experience "advice". Here are a few things I noticed while at the game Thursday that could be improved on. Not a gripe session, just some thoughts as you never know who may read this:
1. Music - I have seen this by many of you and agree. Get rid of the music in between the plays. It's often mistimed and awkward. Plus, many in the stands don't appreciate the music. Let's turn this duty back over to the awesome band that we have, feels more college like and everyone loves the tradition.
2. Sound system was better for this game, need more skilled folks running it however, lots of sound adjustments mid announcement
3. The look of the stadium was gorgeous Thursday night, especially the light bouncing off the trees on the hill end. Then there was the truck. Get rid of that thing, it's ugly, old and stood out like a sore thumb . . . Something you would see at a HS game.
4. Seats. Gotta be a way to price the top corner seats on both sides to make them more desirable than sitting on the hill. We need the . seats full, then hill. Personally, other than bathroom convienence, I don't see the appeal of the hill.
5. As always, bring back the black end zones

I agree. Stop the piped in music between plays. It's kind of a "DUH" when we have the ball anyway. Let the crowd bring the noise; and the crowd has enough sense to know that when we have the ball, noise is not the best response. Duh!
Our poor sound system needs to be taken out back & shot. Hand out mega-phones until it is fixed. IMO, it is not the speakers, they're fine. It is some small device that is only hooked up on game day that has the wrong ohms or resistance or something. Just fix it. Get professionals. It is apparently beyond our staff's ability. This has gone on long enough.
I did not notice the truck.
And, some folks enjoy the hill. I have no problem with that.

For clarification, I have no problem with the hill either, but there has to be a way to entice a few hundred of those folks into the stands, again, just from a marketing standpoint.AppAlum1 wrote:I agree. Re: Marketing help
I understand people enjoy sitting on the hill as well but the student section was so packed that some of the overflow could have been dispersed to the East side. As much as we want to get away from this mentality I think people think sitting on the West side is the home side and they don't want to go to the east side because it's the "visitors" side.

Re: Marketing help
Pumped-in music is for the NFL. We have a band, they should be used for more than halftime shows and punt returns.
Second the black endzones. Honestly, I'd like to have line art similar to what Wyoming has with mountains and our elevation highlighted.

Re: Marketing help
We designate 4 whole sections on the East side for students. I got railed earlier this week for asking the students to fill out the stadium - from an aesthetic point of view. If they want to pack in like sardines on the west side and hill, fine by me. I say to that, open those seats on the East side for public sale and stop holding them for Students. We could use the additional revenue.QueencityApp wrote:I understand people enjoy sitting on the hill as well but the student section was so packed that some of the overflow could have been dispersed to the East side. Agree with the original post.
I think there is a fine balance between piping in current music and utilizing North Carolina's Band of Distinction. They're too good to just sit there and wait for a first down to play one or two bars of the fight song, or a touchdown to play the entire thing. I'd rather hear them or at a minimum something a bit more exciting than a few of the tunes played.
Final thought. Had hoped for a packed house for that big of a game, but those who showed up cheered their tails off, and I still had a blast cheering with them. 25K attendance was good, but we put 32K in the seats to see us play Elon several years ago. Granted it was homecoming, but still.
Big win. Go Appps!

Re: Marketing help
The speakers didn't seem to rattle as maybe that have in other games, but the sound level was up and down. I sat on the north end of the home side and there were times when I couldn't hear what was being said. Put some speakers down there to give us surround sound.
As far as the music, I agree we should utilize our band more. Some songs are fun though during commercial breaks. Especially the ones highlighting our unique mountain culture: Cotton eyed Joe, Mountain Music by Alabama--these are songs that everyone knows, they are upbeat, and could be a fun tradition at the Rock.
I wish we could become a little more consistent with our chants and maybe come up with a few more. The App-State chant is fun and loud, but other than that and the fight song we are lacking on chants. I have been to several Clemson games (w/ my brother-in-law) and I liked how they had several chants that everyone, old and young, knew and were even prompted by the announcer at times. We should all know to start the APP-STATE chant anytime the away fans start some chant of their own. I hated hearing "Georgia-Southern" being chanted at the Rock..we should immediately drown out anyone who tries to chant in our house.
Side note--our student section is amazing. If anybody could establish some solid traditions and new chants it would be those guys.

Not a fan of the music at all, but could tolerate some of it, if it wasn't played Practically EVERY second the ball is not in play. As it is now, it is more than annoying. I can't speak for the students but I bet most would agree to a serious reduction in the noise.

Re: Marketing help
The purpose of the hill will become apparent when once again we jam 30,000 plus fans into a 22,000 seat stadium. At the rate we are going that will happen sooner than later.AppOrange wrote:After reading several posts this morning, I noticed several folks making suggestions on how to help marketing with awareness of our team and game day experience "advice". Re: Marketing help
I agree with the piped in music. However, I sat in yhe student section ( app side) and most if not all where jumping around and dancing during the in between play music. It was a different perspective I had not seen.

Re: Marketing help
The music is NFLish. Student section danced before, except it was to drum cadences, like most college student sections do. Our "Band of Distinction" hardly plays compared to past years, and has been replaced by Top 40 songs. I understand times have changed and students as well as players dig it, but it takes away from the tradition. You look at the top programs in the nation and they are known for their tradition. To me, building a tradition is the best way to market our program. The whip and nae nae will phase out, but building a tradition will last forever.

Re: Marketing help
I agree. The music between plays, mainly when we are on offense, has got to stop. It really amps everyone up, but when we have the ball we need to be quiet. Often times they played music and the students got into it, and everyone had to tell us to quiet down because the ball was about to be snapped.

The sound system was broken this week and they called in a guy to fix or install a temp. That thing has got to be replaced.
The music piped in is here to stay for the students, but I agree it should NOT be played while we are on offense.

Re: Marketing help
I would to see the visiting school buses and equipment truck moved away from the stadium after they drop off players and coaches. Their buses and equipment truck could be brought back in during the 4th quarter. I do not like walking up and seeing visiting team buses blocking my view of the Rock and main entrance. So let's get them out of here, it's our house.
