Clemson Trip

Unread post by asugrad09 » Wed Aug 05, 2015 8:09 am

Just curious as to where everyone is staying for the trip down to Clemson? Debating on Anderson vs Greenville. We want to have the best experience and be with our fellow Apps!

Anderson is closer but dead when it comes to night life. Yosef Club is supposed to be putting together a big bash in downtown Greenville on Friday night. :D

Rumor has it that the Moody 1 is leading a group of his old '86-'87 pals on a pub crawl through G'ville after the Yosef party...just a rumor though.

My crew is staying in Concord on Friday night (I have some folks coming from just east of Raleigh, but don't want to drive all the way to Clemson on Saturday) and then at the Embassy Suites in Greenville on Saturday night.

Stay in Greenville. I live here. it's a fun downtown. And it's only about 40 minutes to Clemson - maybe an hour on game day.

If anyone needs suggestions on places to eat while you're here let me know. Happy to help.

I've left Mooresville at 6am and missed noon kickoffs. If you wait till late morning, even from Greenville, you will have trouble with parking and getting in the gates before the start.

That's a fact. Any time after 9-10 AM, going from G'ville to Clemson, the closer you get, traffic will be backed-up-bumper-to-bumper-lane-to-lane-stop-and-go at 3 MPH. Take an extra dose of patience along or you'll be climbing the wall.

Apps03, we plan to arrive in Clemson about 9-9:30 time frame. We're going to try the free parking lot off 93 and the beach $20 parking lot further down on 93 as an alternative. We plan to enjoy the alumni tailgate, heading to the stadium around 11:30. Have I given myself enough time? What do you think? Thanks very much.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Think we've landed on Greenville but I'm open to hotel suggestions. Also curious as everyone else as to what time we should plan on leaving Greenville that morning? And what's the best way in?

I plan to arrive around 8 am or before. Might use the same lot as you stated.
Might want to add a little more time :)

If you are there early enough to park at 9, you should be fine but i wouldn't push it much further. The problem is once you get off 85, the traffic will back up on Clemson Blvd. beginning around that time. I typically go even earlier and park in one of the many church lots on the downtown side. I haven't read anything about the Yosef tailgate so I'm not sure where that is. Not sure if I'll do that or stick to Esso, Tiger Town, Loose Change, etc downtown. Is it a 12 or 12:30 kickoff, I can't remember? If noon, 11:30 may be a little late to start towards the stadium. If 12:30, you should be good starting at 11:30 or a little later. If your seats are in the upper deck, allow a little more time as that is one heck of a steep climb. I'll stop rambling now.

If you are coming from Greenville skip I-85 and take Hwy 123 to Clemson.

This is the correct answer. I just wasn't sure where everyone was coming from.

Our group is coming from the south side of Clemson, staying in Chickasaw Point for the weekend. I'm hoping to figure out parking with a few others on here as we aren't planning to join the Yosef tailgate, but just plan to grill out and enjoy pre-game beverages on our own.

Counting down the days. Love these short road trips (Tennessee and Georgia as well in 16/17)

Is there a place to park an overnight RV in one of the parking lots?

Thanks

I have personally seen the backup on I-85 southbound many times when I go to our games from ATL. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions about coming north on I-85 from Atlanta? Is there a better back way to avoid traffic on Highway 76? I would bet 76 from I-85 is brutal.

Get off of I-85 at exit 1 in SC and go east on hwy 11 until you hit Hwy 123 and go north right into Clemson.Piece of cake.

Thanks for all the great info. We're coming from Greenville, so we will definitely take 123, arriving NLT 9am. The Alumni tailgate starts at 9. That give us plenty of time to enjoy the tailgate and start our trek to the stadium NLT 11:30am. I have a plan!!! Can't wait. Let's play some App State football!
