App - ECU in Charlotte?
Evidently there have been serious discussions with the ECU AD about scheduling this possibly in 2018 @ BofA. Anyone heard anything?

DANG Doug has more influence than I thought! The writer later corrected it to Gillen.

If it is two in Charlotte, I am okay with it. If it is one in Greenville, one in Boone and one in Charlotte, I am okay with it. If it is one in Greenville and one in Charlotte, then I am absolutely not okay with it.

What about two in Greenville, one in Boone, and one in Charlotte? I have seen this thrown around by ECU fans and I believe I would take that.appst89 wrote:If it is two in Charlotte, I am okay with it. We don't want to set a precedent of playing unequal home and homes with other G5s. If we play any G5 team at their place we should expect to receive a return game in Boone.AppDawg wrote:Absolutely not.asucrutch23 wrote:What about two in Greenville, one in Boone, and one in Charlotte? Re: App - ECU in Charlotte?
The ECU fan argument is we gain nothing by playing App-The same thing UNC and State said about playing them.
None of the games have taken place at neutral site to my knowledge.

They gain the same thing we do, a quality regional drivable away game for our fanbase and a team that will pack the visitors section for the home game.
Neither will do it for recruiting purposes.

Until we can have real seats for 30,000 people I don't see any way we could play ECU in Boone. We need that many seats with a bank overflow of another 8ooo or so. Kidd Brewer needs this many seats to realistically play good G5s and P5s.. Wake and Duke are probably the only exceptions at the P5 level.

Exactly right! ECU won't come to KBS until we can handle the crowd. The same can be said for most P5 and the higher profile G5 programs. It's completely understandable.roachgone wrote:Until we can have real seats for 30,000 people I don't see any way we could play ECU in Boone. Knowledgeable fans knew when we moved to FBS that we'd be joining the facilities wars. We'll forever be scraping up funding from everywhere we can find it to catch up and try to keep up with our peers. It's just a fact. Sooner, rather than later, everybody in G5 will be trying to compact conference membership to reduce travel outlay. Air travel isn't going to get less expensive--ever.
Doug Gillin was hired, in part, for his expertise in marketing and fundraising. We have to have major donors (both individual and corporate) in the fold to help finance our program going forward. We have yet to really break in to the corporate donor world. That's a must for us!

Re: App - ECU in Charlotte?
Love this quote from Gillin at the end of the original Journal article (http://www.journalnow.com/sports/asu/ap ... 1e5a8.html):
“We talk about building a brand, we want to go play. We want to go play where our fans can come watch us. I think that’s important for us. We want to play where our kids on our team are from so their parents can come see them, and where we recruit. It’s really regional for us, where we’re looking at.”
From everything Gillin says, this guy gets it.

Re: App - ECU in Charlotte?
I hope App State never plays a home game outside of Boone, NC. I don't care if that seems backwards or not. Playing major college football in a beautiful, small town in the western NC mountains is infinitely more unique than playing in the concrete jungle of Charlotte.
Give me six home games in Boone and I'll be fine with these out of the box scenarios.

Re: App - ECU in Charlotte?
It's is funny they think they are light years ahead of us. We are literally on the same playing field now. If we played them this year, we would kill them....ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.
I say bring it wherever they want to play and drive them into the ground.
