Can we agree that hiring an OC in 2026 is a must?

That said, will DG insist on DL hiring one AND find the money for the hire?

If an OC is hired, will DLo actually give him the authority to run the offense and (possibly) call plays?

Or would he pay lip service to an OC because he’s an NFL offensive mastermind? ;)

One wonders.

DL handled the presser better than the postgame radio interview.

Once again he gave a cold answer about the post game locker room question.

A seasoned coach would have pulled an anecdote from the conversation, something of the nature of proud of the seniors for giving their all with all the adversity they faced these last few years and we’ll build on the foundation they showed.

I appreciated Brandon Turner’s comments to address that comment as well.

You’re the Head Coach of a Program, bring unity with fan base that was reeling after that one as well.

Thanks to all the third and fourth year players that without a doubt had the roughest 3-4 years of this program and never gave up. If you have time go listen to the rewind of the postgame and Larkins comments. That dude have his ALL.
I’ll start this post by again firmly stating he should get AT LEAST, another year. Because I really do believe in stability and getting the right guys in place to match scheme etc. I think consistency is one of the most underrated things in high level athletics.

All that said, I don’t believe him. I never have. He reminds me a lot of Canales with the Panthers. Who I’m also ambivalent about. They say all the right “coach stuff”, but I don’t believe them. You can tell they say it because it’s “the right thing to say”, not because they mean it. And that was especially noticeable with Loggains talking about the players after the game last night.

Your instinct is correct imo. He has a different goal than being the guy who turns us around. Only he knows what that is, but he seems to now realize he’s not Drink and can’t ride us to a bigger job

Yes listen to DL on the radio interview when asked about the players. I would not play one down for that man.

I saw countless players playing hard for him Saturday. I will watch their actions before being worried about what a few people say on a message board.

Players will generally galvanize their collective efforts based on one of two factors. 1) they love their coach, or 2) they collectively hate their coach.

Yeah the hate route doesn't work in the TP era.

The players that wanted to buy in, did and have. The players that hated the new staff (and there were some) didn’t see the field because they cared more about the name on the back of the jersey, than the Block A on the front.

I’m not suggesting either one over the other here. The team played hard the last two weeks which is a good sign that they stuck together. The reasons are up for interpretation.

As for what transpires, it would be difficult to glean one way or another because we won’t know why specific guys choose their individual paths. Leaving isn’t necessarily a red flag against the staff.

Coach understands how the NIL and portal work. He knows that player loyalty is at an all-time low. When you have coaches that preach loyalty to a university and then turn and bolt for more money (Kiffin)......its hard to preach loyalty and retain players without them being sinical about it. The old way of "Today I Give My All" has changed. The statement now truly means that "TODAY" I give my all but tomorrow I will give myself to the portal. Dlo understands this and he seems to be cut and dry on it. Where I work we are about cut/dry. Your feelings mean little as staying alive trumps whether you feel warm and fuzzy. In the immortal words of one my favorite singers (Sturgill Simpson) - "That's the way it goes...Life ain't fair and the world is mean..." Time for some fans, alumni, players, admin, and coaches to grow up and change their mindset from the old way and look at this as a business. Just is what it is.

Also, still find it odd that we kept letting Arky get out of bounds on their last drive to stop the clock.
The old "prevent" victory defense. Way too soft, no blitz, it's how you play if you are up 10, not 6.

This was our pass D all year .. whether in the 1st Q or last minute of the game. Not sure exactly why. Did we not trust the secondary to deliver with more tight coverage or man coverage at various points of the Year.

Man coverage requires a pass rush. When you don’t have it, the secondary looks bad.

Agreed. That is why they were playing so far off the receivers during the last drive...and most drives all year long.

I thought our cornerbacks struggled all season. Ethan Johnson was our only serviceable corner and that’s being generous. They weren’t twitchy enough to generate interceptions and not physically powerful enough to provide run support. That deep back-shoulder pass to the 1-yard-line on Saturday was the defining moment of the season. A definite area of need during the off-season.

We did a better job of preventing the big play over the top, but the intermediate pass (8-20 yards) across the middle was open all year long.
