Re: Preseason Projections
Not sure I follow your point. Our regular seats are pretty full most Saturdays compared to to our conference mates when I view App at away games or just watching SBC in general

Re: Preseason Projections
I’d almost prefer everyone dog App in preseason polls. Great bulletin board fodder for an unproven team/coach.

Re: Preseason Projections
True, dogging us will provide motivation.
Point is, nobody has any factual reason to justify App performing exceptionally well or poorly based on the degree of changes occurring with the program (unproven HC, new coaching staff/players/etc). And given the level of flux in the SBC it is reasonable to put us somewhere in the middle of the pack give or take. That is what analyst and writers appear to be doing.

Re: Preseason Projections
Those are the closest conference games that have been played on Saturdays in recent seasons. There’s only been one road game at JMU and that was when we were hot and they hosted gameday.
Coastal gets a lot of visitors even though the game has been on Thursday.
I think our fanbase travels very well despite your recency bias.

You are bound and determined to make an argument with every one of my posts just to be a d!**. That’s not what I said at all, I’ve been to road games at ULM, Texas St., Louisiana, and Arkansas St. All of them on a Saturday and the majority of the folks there for App are parents of players.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 8:46 amThose are the closest conference games that have been played on Saturdays in recent seasons. Re: Preseason Projections
There is no doubt that we do not have a huge fan base that travels to West side schools like ulm, arky st, Texas st, etc.
Okay to decent for SBC championship games at lala and Troy.

Re: Preseason Projections
We probably travel in the top 1/3 of the SBC. But that isn't a high bar as some school struggle with home attendance.

Re: Preseason Projections
You can’t reasonably expect fans to travel 10+ hours to go to the western schools in cities that are generally non-desirable.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 11:58 amYou are bound and determined to make an argument with every one of my posts just to be a d!**. I had no idea that’s what you meant because you didn’t specify western division schools. You just listed 3 eastern schools.
Use some common sense please.

Re: Preseason Projections
No, you just want to argue because you are you. I called out the schools that are close for obvious reasons. I didn’t point out the lack of attendance at games that are outside of east opponents to shame folks for not going or not meeting my expectations. That’s a you thing. Just pointing out that the only people that are typically there are parents. I go because I can and I want to. I don’t expect others to feel the same why I do and I certainly don’t get my nose bent out of joint when they don’t.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 20, 2025 10:33 amYou can’t reasonably expect fans to travel 10+ hours to go to the western schools in cities that are generally non-desirable.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 11:58 amYou are bound and determined to make an argument with every one of my posts just to be a d!**. Texas St is between San Antonio and Austin. Louisiana is in Louisiana where the food and company are great and you can make a day trip from New Orleans to both Louisiana and Southern Miss. Arkansas St is the same from Memphis and South Alabama is on the gulf shore. For you to say that the destinations aren’t desirable are excuses of convenience for you.

Re: Preseason Projections
The comments about the low attendance by App fans for some of the western road games reinforces the fact that it’s absolutely stupid for conferences to be so spread out. Theoretically (in my mind) App should really be a bus ride away from almost every conference opponent. I’ll readily admit that we can’t afford to fly to Texas or La for a football game.

Re: Preseason Projections
On a (sort of) related note, does the App State Alumni Association still try to put together package deals for people who want to travel to the “western” games?

The packages are never economically friendly and feel like supplementing athletic staff members.

Re: Preseason Projections
Excluding DL because I don't want to open an entire can of worms and I think he's been discussed at length. What do you think was the biggest "get" for this offseason? Kohl, Swann, Dozier, Dubinion?
My honest completely unfounded opinion - DJ Smith. This isn't based off of any substance, just sick of last years defense and really pumped to think he could be the one to turn that around. I truly hope that he has years of success at this program.

Re: Preseason Projections
Injuries are going to play a big part of any season but especially so this year as we transition from a 3-4 to a 4-3. I like what DJ is saying but the guys up front have to stay healthy.

Re: Preseason Projections
The good news is we have the bodies to get through the year. The bad news is that most of them are unknowns at this level. I will say, Farmer & Manuel could be a nice duo on the inside. Many thought Farmer should have been playing last year but the staff was adamant on saving his redshirt.
