NIL and future of NCAACF

I believe that one of the single worst words associated with all of this mess is “deserve”. Before this new world of “college athletics” ever exploded the word deserve was taken completely out of context by many. There were folks on this board who basically said that college athletes are almost like indentured servants. I agree that the NCAA probably should have been more proactive but part of me believes that they knew if any form of payment ever started it would be hard to police. I always thought punishing a coach, team or school for extremely minor offenses like buying a recruit or his family a meal was ridiculous but rules were rules. In the overall grand landscape how many schools and athletic departments NEVER got any infractions? I’d wager nearly all. The crooked coaches and crooked athletic departments were always going to exist. It now seems like the value of a free ride athletic scholarship isn’t what it used to be. I can’t recall one single college athlete who was forced to play ball. I’ve said many times that I have zero problem with an athlete getting paid for true NIL if he or she represents a company or if his or her name is on the back of a sold jersey. I get tired of watching a game and hearing the announcers make constant references to the “X” transfer. Who cares where some guy transferred from? And many now speak of some player’s NIL deal as if it’s just normal. The system is FUBAR and the NCAA knows it.

I can't think of a person better situated than Saban. He has been entrenched in college football for years and left because of the very problems that need to be fixed. He has a way better understanding of college athletes (especially football players and football is running the show) than anyone I can think of.

The NCAA’s inability and unwillingness to address this for years, and instead just hoard cash led us to the disaster we are in right now. Doubt congress wants to deal with it, and honestly everything they touch turns to crap. Hoping President Trump can restore some sense of order here. Just afraid this train might be too far off the tracks at this point.

Congress could simply give the NCAA and antitrust exemption and restore governing power to the NCAA. That is all it would take, not very hard at all to do for Congress. Now many are probably worried about that because then nothing stops the NCAA from sharing any of the money, but the kids aren't getting any shared money now (until House settlement is approved) they are just getting paid by collectives. Give an antitrust exemption and require TRUE NIL (need to really use a name, image or likeness) and the mess is fixed. It really is that easy.

I can't think of a person better situated than Saban. He has been entrenched in college football for years and left because of the very problems that need to be fixed. He has a way better understanding of college athletes (especially football players and football is running the show) than anyone I can think of.

Very good points. In my opinion if you have to have NIL ( I am 100% against it) then it should be 100% NIL. Kid makes his own deal totally independant of the University or booster club. University can't sell jerseys with names on them. Player can not use any form of identification to the university. Take the University and athletic department completly out of the deal.

Saben also understands LSU and Alabama Football Money. I mean Texas used the NCAA to take down SMU because SMU was a threat to Texas. I just hope that App remains or becomes more relevant in the new Football World Order. I fear that any changes that are made will benefit the haves and punish the have nots...

Do not confuse common sense with good sense. If common sense were real, everyone would have it.

I say again. A structured system to reward FCS X2, and G5 X1. My start of negotiations would be FCS 1.5 Million and G5 800 thousand. It's time power conference pay for NIL at lower level through poaching penalties. Helps level the playing field for smaller teams that develope/sign talent they missed from high school. And FCS gets the "pay game" money for developing talent they saw and power conference did not.
