As a fair weather Miss State fan through family, I would not have been excited for Zach Arnett as HC. He's a GREAT DC, but he flamed out pretty hard as HC at Miss State. He's the guy who thought hiring away Kevin Barbay from App was a good idea. Honestly, that hire was a really big nail in his coffin at MSU. Their defense was nails, the offense was anemic.HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 10:25 amWhat a home run hire at DC, the most important assistant position in my opinion too
I’d be willing to bet some of us would have been excited if Zach Arnett was announced as our next HC, and we have him as a coordinator!
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Have to wait and see if he stays once the NFL coaching dominoes begin to fall.HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 10:25 amWhat a home run hire at DC, the most important assistant position in my opinion too

Ted Roof has never had a fan base that didn’t want to fire him.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:23 amJUST REMEMBER ---
There was a time when Drinkwitz hired a popular big time DC named Ted Roof and then after the 1st ball game vs Charlotte 90% of this board was calling for him to be fired!!!!
Drinkwitz did NOT even let him be available to media after that 1st game.

Re: Dowell's assistants
In fairness, I don’t think Shawn hired them because they were his buddies. I think his issue, and it was one I thought about when he was hired, was that he just didn’t have many contacts to draw from in the coaching community. To be expected when you’ve only been on OL coach at a couple spots and then back to App.diehardapp18 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:25 amThere was also a time where we had a head coach that hired his buddies to be defensive coordinator which resulted in us having some of the worst, most undisciplined, unprepared defenses in the conference.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:23 amJUST REMEMBER ---

Re: Dowell's assistants
He did not do well as HC but honestly I doubt anybody would have in the wake of that sudden tragedy. He wasn't ready to be a SEC head coach (especially in the west) at that point in his career. He might have been great at G5 where he could learn the head coach role, but that is too much to ask in the SEC West with less talent than all the competition and the talent you did have was recruited specifically for a Mike Leach offense. Again, I doubt anyone would have been successful in that positions. He is an amazing DC though and I can't wait to get him up here and working.MrCraig wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 11:51 amAs a fair weather Miss State fan through family, I would not have been excited for Zach Arnett as HC. Re: Dowell's assistants
Arnett went 5-6 as Mississippi State head coach (win as interim in bowl game, then went 4-6).
MSU has been 3-11 since firing Arnett and hasn't won an SEC game. Those 3 wins were over Southern Miss, Eastern Kentucky and UMass.

Re: Dowell's assistants
I know he's well liked and can do a bunch of other stuff, but I hope we don't have Speir as the clock management coordinator again. Standing on the sideline at Coastal with a shocked look on his face as time ran down in the first half despite having a timeout (and with a frustrated Clark next to him) was a major failure.

Chill...S&C was better this year than the years before GreenHaugh was here. Yes guys got injured but for football injuries happen no matter how good of shape you're in.

Plenty of money at UNLV compared to Appstate. Mullen getting 5 million per year.

Re: Dowell's assistants
What is Speirs value in staying - having a head coach on the sidelines who needs someone telling him what to do seems ridiculous to me.T-Dog wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 2:41 pmI know he's well liked and can do a bunch of othet stuff, but I hope we don't have Speir as the clock management coordinator again.
