I was thinking the same thing.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:03 amSo we could pay Arnett $0 since already getting paid $1.2M?

Biggest question mark of this staff has been answered.
Really difficult to spin this as a negative for the couple of posters seeking that angle.

Re: Dowell's assistants
Very Surprising - former player and very recent NFL experience, up and comer coach and on the lower side of the pay scale. I hope its his decision because he can move up and do better at another stop. This could be a big miss if he is not being retained. But all the best for him!CharlotteApp05 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2024 2:33 pmAgree losing AJ hurts....Not retained or pursuing a new role?

Re: Dowell's assistants
Incredible hire. Very curious what we are paying him, because one would think he would require quite a bit. Hopefully that Mississippi State cash is supplementing. I would love to know his salary, that may give us an indication of whether DLO is going to call plays or hire a top-notch OC as well.

It sounds like Miss St is paying him to coach for us.appstate24 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:13 amIncredible hire. JUST REMEMBER ---
There was a time when Drinkwitz hired a popular big time DC named Ted Roof and then after the 1st ball game vs Charlotte 90% of this board was calling for him to be fired!!!!
Drinkwitz did NOT even let him be available to media after that 1st game.
DOTE does not forget!!!!!!

Re: Dowell's assistants
Miss St is paying him for the next 2 years. That amount owed by Miss St is reduced by whatever he is making at his next stop. So if he’s getting $1.2m to not coach from them and we pay him $400k, then Miss State’s obligation is now $800k.

There was also a time where we had a head coach that hired his buddies to be defensive coordinator which resulted in us having some of the worst, most undisciplined, unprepared defenses in the conference.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:23 amJUST REMEMBER ---

You’re right. Being 13-1 sucked. Never want to have to sit through that again.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:23 amJUST REMEMBER ---

How dare you attempt to bring facts into DOTE’s anecdotal story and feelings.proasu89 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:29 amYou’re right. Being 13-1 sucked. Never want to have to sit through that again.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:23 amJUST REMEMBER ---

Re: Dowell's assistants
I think he has thicker skin than that. Probably irritating and a pretty lame way to meet a new head coach, but he seemed to take it in stride.

Re: Dowell's assistants
Also, Ted Roof ended up being good because he adapted to the players and moved to the booth. Ability to adapt is an amazing quality.diehardapp18 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:25 amThere was also a time where we had a head coach that hired his buddies to be defensive coordinator which resulted in us having some of the worst, most undisciplined, unprepared defenses in the conference.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:23 amJUST REMEMBER ---

Re: Dowell's assistants
Agreed. A very small minority on here would still take the prior staff over this new one.

Re: Dowell's assistants
The DC hire of Zach Arnett is an absolute home run. He is far and away the most accomplished (and best in my opinion) defensive coordinator that we have had at App State since I entered in 1988 and I presume prior to that as well. He has had top rated defenses everywhere he has been a DC. This guy is young, smart, innovative, well respected and just an overall excellent defensive coach. I am so excited about this hire!

Re: Dowell's assistants
What a home run hire at DC, the most important assistant position in my opinion too
I’d be willing to bet some of us would have been excited if Zach Arnett was announced as our next HC, and we have him as a coordinator!

Re: Dowell's assistants
Not trying to stir the pot, just an honest question. What about our linebacker play makes him a big loss?asu2000 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:08 amVery Surprising - former player and very recent NFL experience, up and comer coach and on the lower side of the pay scale.
