That is how it was to start but players sued and won so here we are. I think they would have to have legislation done by congress to have those limits back.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
Free transferring isn’t the problem. NIL (but it’s not really NIL) plus free transferring is the problem. If it wasn’t for the money there wouldn’t be as much transferring. And I don’t have a problem with a player trying to find a home and playing time more than once. It’s the money that’s ruing things.

100% agree here. Pay to play would be better if not for the free transfers or the portal without pay to play would be better. The combo is what has made this seem like the wild west.goapps93 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 6:37 pmFree transferring isn’t the problem. Short seemed over the moon in one video I saw dapping the coach up. Smiling from ear to ear. Seems happy to me, which is good news.appstate24 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 10:05 amHe reposted about the hire on his IG story, so I would assume he’s happy.

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
I love my university, but ponying up to watch paid 19 year-old rent-a-players “represent” me before rushing off to join another team the following year does not appeal to me. I can find less expensive ways to feel good about myself.
I’d like to see transfers have to reimburse their scholarship money to the school. Let the new team pay it, since they have all the cash.
If it’s inevitable there will be an FCS style second tier, let’s get it started. Regional rivalries. Rare transfers. Playoff and championship.
Let the P4 become a glorified NFL farm league, and let talented players get drafted
out of high schools. At least that’s better than them picking through our rosters every year like they were at a thrift store.

Biggest winners in this are the Walmart fans of second tier P4 and really P2 programs.
Indiana, SC, Illinois, and UK come to mind.

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
I don’t envision under this process that any “good” G5 programs will have much of a chance to legitimately compete and to an extent times are reverting back to when you saw a handful of solid FCS teams who could probably hang with lower power schools and occasionally grab a shocker. The G5’s who somewhat compete from now on will be the ones who either spend stupid money by overpaying for power school bench players (akin to trash heap free agents in the pros) or simply shock the world and upset their P4 opponent and then pretty much run the table in conference. Either way if the CFP doesn’t screw the G5 (which I expect to happen) it’s going to be a monumental task every year. Obviously the caveat to the whole thing is to be able to restock a roster which could lose a third every season. Isn’t this great?

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
Football appears to be the most popular sport. Basketball second for college. If a kid can make decent money in college, I can see parents pushing kids into these sports even more than they do currently. The supply of players may increase. More academies like IMG will form to bypass traditional high school. This is a 5, 10, 15 year idea

This portal makes me care less and less about the game in terms of the Gameday experience. Maybe Ricks was right.

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
The portal is depressing for the fan for sure. However, I stick to the positive. We may have an opportunity to get some good players (deep on a Power school depth chart that really wants playing time)...if only for a year or two and win. For me, it is investing in App. St. per se than a player for four years as they may not be here. Name on the Front versus name on the back.
If UNC model is the future, we are basically back to being relegated ... or relegated+...so, the wins against P5s are really great upsets...as we cannot buy a team like they can.... unless we get some really deep pockets...I can get as much out of GameDay as before.
This does not mean I will not give to our nil. It is just the reality of the situation from my perspective.

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
That’s where I am with it, but this model of churning over your roster with castoffs from other programs isn’t a recipe for sustainable success. 6-7 win seasons may be the new level set each year with the occasional 9+ season. From a professional front office business model, we are a small market team.

Any one have the thread from a couple of years ago when we were discussing how NIL and TP would impact CFB, that would be a great read.

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
Saw a little bit of a Lane Kiffin presser. He was basically telling their fan base to get used to records they aren’t typically used to.
With rosters turning over everywhere it’s really hard to imagine any school outside of about 10-15 majors being able to sustain 9 plus wins a year. To expect any coaching staff to be able to really assess players in the Portal who have barely played since high school is crazy.

Re: Transfer Portal 2024/2025
P5 teams 3rd and 4th stringers were our whole starting line this past year (outside of Ramsay/Samuel). We get their scraps. Doesn't mean those kids aren't good, they're just buried behind 4 and 5*'s.
Scroggs, Hollifield, Shrader, Langlo, Gentry....all were buried on the depth chart at prior schools, but played pretty good for us. The real problem is we whiffed on OL recruiting so we had to go get backups from other schools. Need a better mix of both HS and portal in the trenches.
