Thought we hired a guy to handle game day operations a year or two ago?boonetown1 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 7:41 pmI think Gillin has kind of phoned it in with game day operations. He talked a big game early, but it feels high school ish.
Side note, has anyone noticed we no longer play back in black before the entrance?
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

The AE thing was bad. As for our game day experience we have screwed it up by trying to make it new and hip. To have a great game day experience with maximum fan involvement you need traditions. Traditions are what allows the guy who has been coming for 20 years and the student who has been coming for 3 games to do the same things in unison. We have pretty much crapped on our tradition's. I do really like most of the new, “welcome to the Rock” spots. I did advocate for getting ride of Shaw Connery.

This isn't the main point of the thread, but since a couple people brought up the flashing stadium lights - I hope we don't waste time and money with those. They are kind of cool the first time you see them (which for me was the ECU game in Charlotte). After that, they're just annoying, at least to me. I saw them in use in the MLB playoffs, and they really detracted from the natural energy in the stadium when a big play happened. They're not special or unique; just feels like something people are doing now because they think they're supposed to. The one underpinning to a lot of the complaints about App's gameday is that we seem to try to just copy what everyone else is doing, and it just feels generic. Not to mention we play, what, one night game a year?

I'm tired of recognizing every Tom dick and harry during timeouts....carve some time at halftime....... or just do one and pretape others to go on the jumbotron

If it's what the kids/recruits/players want and we have the money, we should look into it. The A&M/South Carolina game looked electric. Sure, having 80,000 people helps, but the lights, their towels, and Sandstorm all play into creating an intimidating environment. At the moment, the Rock isn't very intimidating.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 1:16 pmThis isn't the main point of the thread, but since a couple people brought up the flashing stadium lights - I hope we don't waste time and money with those. A speaker system or speaker addition is needed first and foremost though. Can't understand or hear one word out of the current system.

Didn't we just (within a few years) update our speaker system? I remember reading about it but honestly I haven't ever been able to discern any improvement. Also, pretty sure we updated all our lights to LED a few years ago. Maybe I just have a bad memory but I swear we did both of those things in the not too distant past. Of course, the speaker system is bad and needs a complete replacement in my opinion.

Not sure how you watch that 2nd video and say “I don’t want that”. It would help to have a main song we play, timed up to the lights, and a great speaker system. Right now, we just have fans making the noise with no outside help. If I’m an opposing player and walk into that, I’m pooping my pants.

Different strokes, I guess. An entrance song is cool, but in general, "fans making noise with no outside help" is what college sports are all about in my book. YMMV, which is fine.311neers wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 3:55 pmhttps://x.com/alyssalang/status/1853100 ... 3hJ5cku44g

Again, South Carolina plays a lot of night games. App State does not, and given the dispersal of our alumni base, I don't expect that to change. That alone means the lights won't even be turned on more than once, maybe twice at most, per year.
Edit: Also, nobody is scared to play at South Carolina. Well, except A&M, I guess.

Well, I mean, Lowndes and Valdosta might literally have more boosters than App State lol311neers wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 12:07 amGame day Ops are high school level. Speaker system sounds like an underwater submarine. The fact that we don’t have multiple speakers throughout the stadium and LED lights is baffling.
I watched a HS game in South Jawga (Lowndes v Valdosta) last night and they had LED lights flickering all night. A better atmosphere than a team with 3 national collegiate championships.

Maybe an unpopular opinion (or two) but:
1: I hate the mountain music going into Yosef spinning around before kickoff. Just feels cheesy.
2. I miss the motorcycle entrance (even though it was copied from wake)
Also don’t really like how much we lean on mountain music song so much. We’re not Cajun; or anywhere close. Kidding there; kind of….

Former players have not been very high on admins priority list and this is just another example.

No kidding. Nobody cared the first time Blue Ridge Energy donated money to App, why does App feel the need to parade them, the Circle of Excellence people and the other “regular offenders” out at every game? Because it makes donors feel important and pumps their egos.

It's time to retire Mountain Music. "Cajun hide-aways" are more likely to be found in swamps, not mountains.boonetown1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 8:12 pmI would agree with the noise.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 6:00 pmDifferent strokes, I guess.
