I've never bought into the "playing with a chip" mentality. Ditto for "losing focus." They're just sports cliches, in my book.

Once you get hit in the mouth a couple of times, you're either good enough to win or you're not.
Everybody is entitled to an opinion, but I completely disagree. "Good enough" is only one component of sports. Intangibles are a huge part of football. I'm sure the "chip on your shoulder" is an attitude that drives the intensity of practices and overall motivation. How can motivation NOT be part of football? It's the glue that makes it all work. Of course, that's just MY opinion.

Note: Should have finished reading the thread before commenting. AppFan11's post said pretty much the same thing. Sorry for the repetition.

What that interview tells me is to beware of "trickeration"; early onside kicks, double reverses, kickoff return gimickery, etc.

As far as motivation goes. Everyone is different. One of my favorite motivational speeches was Jim Valvano espy speech. "Don't give up don't ever give up." I was raised to get back up if knocked down and fight back with all I had. I might get my tail whipped but the other guy would know he had been in a fight.

I am sure there was some sarcasm in your post (Coach Yost) and that is fine. But for those who don't remember here is a link to just one of Dabo's comments.

https://www.tigernet.com/clemson-footba ... ards-16199

"We had two goals tonight, one was to get the job done and the other was to leave no doubt. We felt we left a little doubt in the past couple years." Swinney said.

In my mind, that is the attitude this team should bring every week. They are not mutually exclusive goals. We want to show everybody we deserve to be included in any national discussion on best teams in the country.
Not so much sarcasm as quoting the popular movie "Remember the Titans". When they're playing the racist coach Taber. Yost looks at Herman and hollers "Run it up Herman, leave no doubt".

The thought was, that's where Dabo got this phrase from. I yell it every time we get a decent lead in Kidd Brewer. Someone behind me got the reference and when I yell "Run it up Herman" he replies with "Leave no doubt".

Its a beautiful thing.

Old thread I thought Id revive it worked out pretty well last time :D and because once again.

I just can't shake the feeling that this season will be something special :D . I can't put my finger on why I feel like this, it's just there  . I haven't felt this way since before Corona.

What say ye? Or am I leading myself up a garden path with rose colored glasses once again?

The thread title has left me feeling a little diffused.

I am cautiously optimistic. I think we have a ton of talent, but I just don't know if in the close games we will be seasoned enough to find a way to win. Certainly could do so, but just don't know. Yet, I'm still going to be the homer that I am and say we win 8 to 9, maybe even 10 games and are in the hunt for the SBC Championship. Let's Go!!!!!!

We're young. We only have 6 seniors that didn't just transfer in that has significant playing time.

Good news is we have a lot of talent nobody knows about. Bad news is the talent we have was proven primarily against high school athletes and we all know that doesn't always translate to college ball.

I'm cautiously optimistic and think we'll see improvement from last year. But, holding out for 2018/2019 expectations too.

I am onboard with GAS, got a feeling of a special season. Not sure why, maybe just blissful ignorance or rose colored glasses but whatever it is it has me getting more and more excited for a big year. I really think we fixed our defensive deficiencies. Last season our DL was having difficulty getting pressure in spring practice, the staff tried to address it in the portal and it didn't work. The DL deficiencies continued to show during fall camp and clearly into the season. Without any pressure, our LBs and DBs could not make stops when needed. I don't think we have this issue anymore this season as all reports are that the DL is improved. With an improved defense we will be able to make stops and put our offense back on the field. I know we have an unproven QB, but our OL has 3 very good interior returners and we have a deep and proven group of RBs to help with our transition to the new QB. Call me an optimist, but I got a feeling of a special season.
