Fair enough. I disagree but I do see some points in the argument for going for it. Maybe inside 3 minutes… but getting 3 points provides momentum. Something analytics does not account for.
With 5 minutes left I take the 3 pts every time.

Satterfield has carried this program for years with the offense he instilled under Coach Moore. Coach Moore got the credit but Satterfield was the person that sought the offense. He also pushed hard for FBS after being at FIU.

Re: Up Next...Marshall
I'm not ready to throw SC out yet. I do believe he has some hard decisions to make and that starts with the OC and DC. I've always thought DJ was/is a great linebackers coach, but after his second stint as the DC, it just isn't working. On the offensive side, I thought Barbay was going to be good when the year started, but his willingness to change and creativity has hit a brick wall. I'm not saying SC does not have his own problems or learning curve, but the two coordinators are not getting the job done.JohnnyBurrito wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 7:50 pmWell said.ah59396 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 7:46 pmMaybe I’m in the minority here, because it seems there’s blood in the water for the “fire this guy” crowd, but I hate this for SC.
I always watch these post game interviews, the man wears his emotions on his sleeve. When we beat TAMU you could see what it mean to him. And when we lose you can see the reality of it on his face. I hate seeing that. SC is more Mountaineer than anyone on this board, I’m sure no one wants App to be successful more than he does.
It’s starting to look like he might not be the guy, and that sucks. I don’t get the joy some have in that.
I don’t think many get joy out of those comments, just letting out frustration.

Well at least now we know what to expect next year and have a whole off-season to prepare for it. Yay.....

I want so much for SC to succeed. I’m still pulling for him. He’s an APP guy and he’s willing to work for FBC head coaching pennies. All that said, I wonder if we have not slipped back to fcs status. Offensive and defensive philosophy and personnel. We just really look awful. I’m sad for so many reasons but the biggest sadness is that being older I don’t have that many years left to find out if SC can do the job.

A million a year isn't pennies but I get what you mean.Zero for three championships , 3-5 against FBS teams. We have a mess on our hands.

In my worthless opinion, he gets a mulligan for 2020 bcuz of covid. This year he’s underperformed, but App did have to replace a lot of parts. I think he deserves another year with maybe a new DC. If App is this bad or worse next year- it’s time to move on. (Plus his buyout will be less than half what it is now)ah59396 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 7:46 pmMaybe I’m in the minority here, because it seems there’s blood in the water for the “fire this guy” crowd, but I hate this for SC.

Re: Up Next...Marshall
Maybe AppStateNews can confirm but I was under the impression a big reason for extension was a way to get him to agree to lowering the buyout. I know people think we can't afford to buy him out now but we have some boosters who I think will pony it up if Gillin is willing to part ways. I know it will heavily depend on how we finish and I hope we can win out but I am not confident we win another one. ODU is a chance at a win because they have been so bad lately.

I didn’t disagree with that 4th and one but some others I have for sure disagreed with. A coach has to know his team and not simply want his team to be something it’s not.AppInDC wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 7:40 pmAre you talking about the 4th and 1? Modern analytics and thought absolutely does say go for it in a situation like that and not take the 3 points. You continuing to insinuate that people who say otherwise don't know football is sad because they clearly are up to date with current thinking.Old Justice wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 7:34 pmI’m hoping you don’t coach football. If those donors are going to pony up for a buyout, we are also going to need them to pony up for increases for an incoming staff or we are just going to be in the same boat again.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 9:46 pmMaybe AppStateNews can confirm but I was under the impression a big reason for extension was a way to get him to agree to lowering the buyout. No doubt some changes are needed, but I worry about having donors with too much pull. Look where that has gotten Auburn. Heck, look what it got us with Capel.

Re: Up Next...Marshall
Theres no way they will fire clark for 1 bad season even if we finish 5-7. Next year he would be on the hot seat. One silver lining is we dont have to worry about losing coaches this year. Our coaches will self evaluate and come back ready during off season. Also we will have our full offense witha mobile qb next year and hopefully improve our secondary

Can’t argue with you about that but this isn’t FCS anymore and it takes money to compete.

Re: Up Next...Marshall
This isn’t about ONE bad year. It’s about a deteriorating program before our eyes. 3 straight years of it. If I’m pulling the levers of whether he stays or goes, the majority of it depends on the last games. Get these freshmen in. They won’t lose a redshirt for 3 games. These seniors are DONE, and thanks. They might, maybe, just might win one more. But that’s no guarantee.ncman071 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 11:36 pmTheres no way they will fire clark for 1 bad season even if we finish 5-7. Time to get a jump on development of these kids for the future and at the same time guard against the portal. Let’s see what we have in Burger and get him some invaluable live game experience. Get some of these young, highly touted offensive linemen in the game. Lord knows it can’t get worse. This line is the worst in the Sun Belt. Let that sink in.
I’d rather be losing knowing we’re developing than watching a bunch of seniors walk through the motions while taking down the program.

If there’s not a new O-line coach next year, I will be giving exactly zero dollars to the program in any way, shape, or form. I’m fine giving Barbay another year to get used to things. The defense HAS gotten better as the season has gone along, as much as I’d like to see Dale Jones gone as well. But the o-line? My decision to give or not give to the program is and will not be dependent on coaching hires and fires. I am an App. St. alumni. This is my school. As stated on another thread, as long as I am financially able, I will continue to renew my NEZ seats.
