Why are people so concerned about App fans talking about rankings?

Is you don’t want to participate, I understand, perhaps you think fan board comments will jinx us (they won’t).

The reality of being a win or two away is pretty neat, especially given the state of conversation just five years ago.

I agree with everything you said, it's just not where my mind is as a fan. Maybe it's because as a former athletes myself I nor my teammates really put much care into where we ranked. I know I'm far from that athlete status now, but it's just the way my mind as a fan works. I'm sure the teams goals align right with my expectations as a fan.

The college football beat writer for The Tampa Bay Times thinks we should be ranked. It’s nice to get some national recognition. Also, Chris Falica, aka, the Bear for College Gameday thinks we should be ranked as well.

I posted earlier this week that national writer Pete Fiutak was on the radio touting us as well. I've heard a few national guys talk about the "casual" fans and pollsters sometimes still associate us with FCS versus being a G5. This top 25 ranking would help change that i think.

I agree with everything you said, it's just not where my mind is as a fan. Maybe it's because as a former athletes myself I nor my teammates really put much care into where we ranked. I know I'm far from that athlete status now, but it's just the way my mind as a fan works. I'm sure the teams goals align right with my expectations as a fan.

Sometimes we believe our thoughts on here have a larger impact on outcomes than reality.

This is why I always laugh when someone on here says something like “we need to stop worrying about ‘big game in 3 weeks’ and focus on crappy team we play this weekend!!!”

No, we don’t. The team and coaches do, yes. But we are just a bunch of fans posting on a message board. We can dedicate all our focus to a game we play in 2040 if we want to. Or arbitrary polling numbers (though the implication of the number is anything but arbitrary).

I disagree. I see some players and coaches tweeting #rankappstate. Fans do affect players and coaches. We will get the recognition if we keep our heads down and help the team focus on the game at hand. Getting in the top 25 for the first time is good for our name recognition but, it is a distraction to our goal of hosting and winning the conference championship. We are no different than coaches or players. Think about when we had our first P5 home game (Miami) game after we played well at UT Knoxville. We the fans, over hyped our team. Don’t let this moment (ranked in the top 25 for the first time) get too big for us.

We can’t do anything about our SOS, but this is exactly the reason we pull for SBC teams when they play out of league games (not directed at you, of course).
