Latrell Gibbs
Anyone, maybe Moose, have an update on whether we are getting him back for 2017? I'm guessing the answer is no since nothings been posted/reported. Thanks in advance.

Re: Latrell Gibbs
Wish I could say more. I will say this. Last report (mid spring) was he was coming back for Summer 1. It starts next week and he's not listed on the .edu site. If he doesn't come for S1 he has two more chances before season (S2 and Fall) to come back and start classes again. Guess we'll know officially once camp starts.

Re: Latrell Gibbs
I had been wondering the same recently. With him and Duck back there, that would be dangerous

Re: Latrell Gibbs
To put it simply, it's not a given that if he comes back he's just going to walk in and take over the spot opposite Duck. He hasn't played in over a year and in addition to Hayes and Pinckney, who have both been in the system for a while, we have guys that were shirted last year that have been making some big noise, both on scout team last season and in spring ball. I know full well what he did when he was here but I also know what I'm hearing and if he comes back he's got work to do. He will not be given the starters spot just for coming back.

Re: Latrell Gibbs
For that , I am grateful. Nobody gets a free ride around here anymore. I have a feeling that our whole coaching staff really scrutinizes what we have in place prior to assigning starters. I have a good feeling about a lot of the players that we shirted last year.firemoose wrote:To put it simply, it's not a given that if he comes back he's just going to walk in and take over the spot opposite Duck. Re: Latrell Gibbs
I don't think anyone assumes he'd be given the starting job automatically. I also can't envision him not winning it if he's playing at the level he was when we last saw him. (And yes I realize that's not a given.)

Re: Latrell Gibbs
Nothing is a given right now, especially the part about him actually coming back. We'll know in a month or so.

Re: Latrell Gibbs
Just saw where Athlon projects him as 1st team All Conference, but with an asterisk. Then at the bottom the asterisk says = Will Not Return to team in 2017. Not sure why you project him as first team and then have that note.

It's a shame that a young with obviously solid potential has possibly thrown it away. It would have been great if he could have stayed on and worked his way back but you have to cut it in school. Some kids just don't get it and believe they don't have to work for the good things in life. There is ALWAYS another guy waiting in the wings to take your place. Best of luck young man.

Of course. My comment was tongue in cheek and to say his talent was top level like Sean Price. His commitment was not.
Sad situation. One he will no doubt regret and say, "what could have been."
Hopefully others on the team see this as an example of what not to do.

Re: Latrell Gibbs
This thread is going down a very slippery slope, I honestly don't believe anyone here wants this to dissolve into a bash session directed at a young man. There is a lot of this story that has not been told yet. This young man was a great contributor for our team, and I hope for nothing but the best for him in his future on and off the football field. I just want to close with we all expect our students/student athletes and all those who represent our university to exude a certain level of class and tact. That should hold true for us sitting in this forum as well, I really hope people think about that moving forward.

Re: Latrell Gibbs
Do we actually know that a) he's not coming back to App, and if so, b) the reason is because he failed to get his grades in order?
