Re: UNCCH to Boone?
We've seen this already but I'd love to see it more....having football OOC scheduling bleed over into other sports OOC scheduling. Ala, setting a series with UNC in football and baseball/softball/wrestling/basketball/etc in the same calendar year.
It just makes tremendous sense, especially with closer driveable opponents.

I ain't scairdt, just saying I doubt the same level of respect will exist and I definately don't see myself pulling for their team in any way for the rest of the season. Don't get me wrong, this is a great opportunity, I guess I like the UGA, UT, Clemson type opportunities better.EastHallApp wrote:You'll be fine. It's Carolina, not ISIS. I would be all for a UCLA or USC that fall outside the recruiting footprint more so than a Missouri. Missouri just doesn't move the needle that much for me. We just need to make sure that the game paycheck is big for a west coast trip!MtnDevil95 wrote:I would tend to agree with the notion that at this point in our progression any P5 is a good P5 for H&H series. Sure there were extenuating circumstances that helped our case with Miami, but the entire App State nation seized the opportunity and is now making the most of it. Land the CHeaters, and why go after the next level? I follow the logic in targeting P5 teams in our recruiting footprint, but imagine scheduling UCLA, USC, or Cal and cracking the door on some California high school talent?

USC and UCLA are not the type of teams we could get to Boone anyway. Both play in 90,000+ seat stadiums. UCLA actually does have some road games vs. G5s, but they appear to prefer metro areas (Cincinnati, San Diego State, Memphis).
Also keep in mind Pac-12 teams only play three OOC games per year, so they have less flexibility (or less need, if you prefer) to travel to G5s.

Yeah, plus one over South Carolina in the '70s. They were an independent then but I'd consider that the equivalent of a P5.TheMoody1 wrote:EastHallApp wrote:B) Georgia Southern has exactly one win over a P5 team in program history. App has something like 9 or 10.

Beats GS' all-time record of 1-23 vs. P5s. Kind of ironic for a school that has a Twitter fan account with the handle @P5killers.

Personally I'd love to get the two other in state P5 schools along with others like Vandy, UVA, S Car, GT within the recruiting footprint.

Yes, but to hear GS tell it, they have been more competitive than us vs P5's . They would be damn near lethal at horseshoes.EastHallApp wrote:Yeah, plus one over South Carolina in the '70s. Recently, yes they have had more success than us recently. Meaning they haven't gotten their teeth kicked in as badly or as often as we have. That's the truth.

Why is there just a debate/discussion regarding how we have done in the past against strong FBS competition. When we were FCS we had fewer scholarships and less talent. It's a whole new deal now. Windshield not the rear view mirror

I've been to the Dean Dome twice to watch us play the Tar Heels and their fans treated us fine and we were all decked out in black and gold...even on the shuttle ride in from the parking area. Now they were lopsided victories for them so they may have behaved differently if we had won. I was careful not to spill anything on their docksiders though...that might piss them off.Gonzo wrote:Unless you're a lactose intolerant recovering alcoholic. If they hadn't won then there wouldn't have been any fans to interact with. I don't know if you've ever seen a CHeat game when they lose but all their fans start to look like seats.Rick83 wrote:I've been to the Dean Dome twice to watch us play the Tar Heels and their fans treated us fine and we were all decked out in black and gold...even on the shuttle ride in from the parking area. Re: UNCCH to Boone?
G5 losses to P5s are always forgotten by the masses and the media whether close or lopsided. So in that sense I agree with you. But to us, to me, if we're losing I'd rather we stayed competitive (<14 point margin of victory) against P5s than get boat raced. At least GS has been close more than we have...because it makes us feel good, the media will talk about how well we played against XU, and we can sell to recruits "be the guy who helps get us over that hump".AppinVA wrote:They lead in the moral victory category. Bingo. They actually made a t-shirt celebrating a 24-point loss. That's a fact. If we were into moral victories as much as they are we'd probably have hung a banner for the Tennessee game by now.AppinVA wrote:They lead in the moral victory category. Wine and cheese, docksiders. Come on man. These are old and tired jabs at their base. My wife went to UNC. When we go to Chapel Hill we see beer and pizza, and tennis shoes, as much as we see anything else. BTW, when I go to App games, is see my fair share of docksiders. Hell, I've worn them to a game. Damn good shoe.Rick83 wrote:I've been to the Dean Dome twice to watch us play the Tar Heels and their fans treated us fine and we were all decked out in black and gold...even on the shuttle ride in from the parking area. We're just starting the trash talk early...it'll pick up as we get closer to a game but it's all in fun and I haven't seen anything too nasty yet. One of my daughters graduated from UNC so I'm well acquainted with the Tar Heel world.yosef13 wrote:Wine and cheese, docksiders. Come on man. These are old and tired jabs at their base.
