Re: Not every student leaves early
I don't get that either, aren't games free to students (due to the fees they paid with tuition)? With the stadium right on campus it really doesn't get any easier. Going to a game isn't like watching football on TV (which I do as well) but it's the pageantry, the excitement, the best damn marching band around, the drama of the game, and of course social-time with your App brethren. I had a relative, whom I'm pretty sure had never attended a football game in her life before going to App, and by the time she graduated had bought into the whole experience. In fact, she was at the Tennessee game in her black and gold after graduating 5 years ago...CornCobPipes wrote:Nearly flipped out before game today as wife and I go to grocery store in Boone and cashier ask what we are doing today?....and we reply well we are going to game.....she says what kind of game?.....I'm like well the football game.....head really spinning at this point and then she says well I am graduating, this is my final semester and have never been to an ASU football game....I get it some people don't like football and that's fine but that situation blew my mind...she even ask who are teams that are playing....and we had our App attire on.....still scratching my head.

I don't believe that all students can get in free for every game. So you are saying all 17,000 students could get into a given game free? I don't think so.3rd wrote:WrongNewApp wrote:I don't believe that all students can get in free for every game. Yes, they could. There was no rationing of student tickets for the Miami game, and that's the closest we've had to 100% student demand.NewApp wrote:So you are saying all 17,000 students could get into a given game free? Yes your wrong. I don't post on this board much anymore but you constantly have made comments that are just completely untrue. Every student on campus can get into every athletic event for free. There may only be one they can't and that is wrestling. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong on the wrestling) I know wrestling went to selling tickets to try and make money so they are more attractive to keep around but I still don't know if they make students pay, they didn't when I was around campus not long ago.NewApp wrote:<crickets>

Re: Not every student leaves early
So now that we've established that there is no entry fee, what is the average student attendance to home games? Unless there's already something in place, perhaps for next year some student organizations could have an initiative to invite/encourage non-interested students to attend some games. I really do think it's a unique experience at App and that they'd feel a part of something special, even after they graduate if they keep following the team. Basketball too, although that'll pick up once the consistent winning starts. It's way more fun than following something like politics...

Re: Not every student leaves early
If I'm not mistaken there were thousands of season tickets sold well in advance. Thus those seats would not have been available for students.3rd wrote:Yes your wrong. Season tickets are in the reserved sections, which are not available to students. The students have designated sections in the stands or they can overflow to the hill, the same as general admission tickets.NewApp wrote:

That's what I meant. But theoretically all 17,000 students could not get in to most games. They sure couldn't have back in the day we were having crowds of 30,000 relatively often.appbanker wrote:Season tickets are in the reserved sections, which are not available to students. A different version of the "Walk of Shame," I stayed the entire game Saturday but only because my wife wasn't with me. At some point I wouldv'e caved in and left if she had come, just to stop the complaints about the cold. I love my wife but she hates the cold (she's not an App grad).APPARJ wrote:Weak.Gonzo wrote:We left early for the first time this season and one of only a few times in my life. I think you refer to the McNeese State playoff game, which I think it was in the late 1980s. We lost the game as I recall.
And, at kickoff, it was a sweltering 8 degrees & it went down from there. Not really snowing so much, as sleeting/icing. The wind was fierce too. I was there, with about 4,000 of my closest friends. Maybe the smallest crowd at a home game ever in KBS (not counting when it was called Conrad Stadium - don't recall when the name changed).
FTR, I stayed for the ENTIRE game. Just wanted y'all to know that.

My wife (who hates the cold and didn't even go to App) and our 4 year old made it through the entire game. Can't believe grown men couldn't handle a little wind.APPARJ wrote:Weak.Gonzo wrote:We left early for the first time this season and one of only a few times in my life.
