We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Donating to App State Football

Unread post by korr-upt » Wed Feb 03, 2016 10:45 pm

I've read some threads in the past in regards to donating, and if there already is one pertinent to this and someone is kind enough to link that thread to me than there is no need for this one. Is there a specific donation I can give to get that track moved?! I feel like this track has been in the conversation of being moved for years. What other donation boxes do we have aside from "Yosef's Club"? Or does that just encompass everything, which is fine by me. But moving that track is my #1 priority, if I have any say in the matter. Again, sorry if this thread has already been through a million times.

korr-upt, you're right this conversation has been bantered about hundreds of times. The CW is that the track should be removed. Cost is a major consideration, but finding another location for the track is also a huge barrier.

I am in favor, however I am unsure what we would put in place of the track? Would we get rid of it just to make it more attractive, or would there be an attempt to add more seats, which adds more cost to the project?

Looking at this also from the other sports view. Track & Field deserve their own complex/venue. Currently they use KBS for outdoor and Holmes for indoor meets. I am sure they want their own spot as well.

The reality is it is expensive to do such a thing, and current donations are not enough to cover that additional cost. Now if anyone on here is tight with Boone Pickens or Phil Knight, maybe they could convince them to throw us $100 million as a donation.

Is anyone gonna tell the man where he can donate or just tell him why we can't/haven't done it?

How I interpreted the "removal", if and when that would happen, was that it would allow for us to maybe bring the bleachers a bit closer and than tidy the area up with grass or whatever just so it doesn't look hideous. But, I mean donating to Yosef's Club is fine by me, all sports are important.... Then again, I'm pushing for bigger and better App State Football, I'd like for us to be in the SEC by tomorrow morning.

In terms of replacing the track, I would hope that the school would look at the old Watauga High School location. The football stadium and athletic track are still there, as is a few ball fields and tennis courts...not to mention decent parking. It would make for a good off-campus facility like State Farm if the price is right.

I think it's owned by the county and they have been trying to sell the property for an 8-figure amount but maybe the school and county could work something out.
