Sunergy 2026

Unread post by McLeansvilleAppFan » Wed Jul 22, 2026 3:27 pm

Only day one results and sitting in 2nd place for this event but nice to be ahead of MIT.

Georgia Tech, App State, MIT. I can be proud of that. And we had the fastest lap over GT.

By the way that are very much worth funding with a few dollars. They do a great job of representing App State.

We seem to do well in this event every year. It is really impressive, even more so considering we aren't even an engineering school.

I agree and I will say once again, I would much rather see an engineering school come to App over a medical school that many keep plugging for. I think it would thrive.

We do offer a MS in Engineering Physics. Not the same as having a school of engineering but it is something.

Sunergy draws from so many areas of study. It really is amazing in that aspect alone. It also helps that they have a nice space to work in that is donated space by an alumnus.

That’s a simple fix. Get both.

Would be nice. Not sure simple, but I'm in favor.

Healthcare capacity in WNC is lacking , to say the least. Rural communities are suffering. Something needs to be done, it may not be us , but something….

I found this detailed page for results with more detailed information. We are also doing better than NC State, which is not even cleared to run on the track.

Seems we stayed in second and not far from taking GT when laps and other factors are determined for a final score.

Read through that list of teams but could not find App State, maybe we just weren't mentioned. I did see #25 Catawba College and found this pretty interesting:

"The Catawba College Solar Vehicle Team began in Spring 2025, when Dr. Lee Ball launched a partnership with Appalachian State’s Team Synergy. Students visited their shop, building interest that led to the donation of Apperion."

Seems App State is spreading the love and getting others involved. Good to hear.

It’s all the way at the bottom. “828 Autumn.” I have no clue why it’s last.

Each team has a number, which I assume they make up themselves, as long as there is not conflict with another teams. Team synergy uses the telephone area code for Boone. And it happens to be the highest number used. A have bothered to verify this but the other schools with three digit numbers may also be using area codes.

We are in 2nd place starting day 2 of the cross country trek from MN to TX. Three teams are in the multi-occupancy (MOV) contest with many more schools in the single-occupancy contest. I think only three MOV schools are allowed in for MOV and the first contest on the road race track is what got us to this part of the contest.
