Prayer Request for Fred Robinette

Prayer Request for Fred Robinette

I've delivered about as much bad news as I can handle for one day with the announcement of Lynn Underwood's death; but unfortunately there's more. Fred Robinette (Appalachian Class of '66), Associate V-C Emeritus for Alumni Affairs & Annual Giving, is seriously ill with stage 4 pancreatic and liver cancer. Fred, who retired from ASU several years ago, has held several executive-level fundraising positions since his retirement. He is presently the Senior Director of Alumni Affairs and Special Gifts at Wake Forest University Baptist Health System in Winston-Salem and; resides in the Advance/Bermuda Run area.

Please keep Freddie and Prissy in your thoughts and prayers. He's talking about his illness, wants the word out and is maintaining a positive outlook. That, however, cannot be easy. Call Fred, send him an e-mail message (his addy is below) or drop him a card or note in snail mail. He'd appreciate hearing from you. frobinet@wakehealth.edu

Fred is one of the finest Appalachian supporters in "our big family." Remember him in prayer, please.

It would be hard to find two finer people in this world. Fred started the Appalachian Ambassador program and in my mind an App legend. Good luck Fred!

I just talked to him a few days ago checking on him. I've known Fred since I can remember (he's known me since I was born. He and my father were great friends and golfing buddies. The twice a year trips to Pinehurst were always something Dad looked forward to. God Bless Fred, Prissy and the entire Robinette family.

Heard about Fred on Saturday, but did not know about Lynn. Knew she had been sick for several years. I've got a couple of her prints, Hackett's Gear #2 of 1000 and Appsolutely. Both great ambassadors for ASU. Sad day to be a Mountaineer.

I have never met Fred, but I just sent him a quick email. My prayers go out to Fred and his family.

ASU66,

Thanks for posting this. I've known Fred for several years, he was at school with my dad and knew my grandfather through the early years of the Yosef Club. For those of you that do not know Fred, he is the greatest ambassador ASU can have. He's a GREAT human being. He is the type of person that brings everyone up.

When my wife told me the news, my first thought was, if ANYONE can beat this, its Fred. I know he is a believer in Christ and would appreciate your prayers. He needs prayer and I pray that God heal him so that he can tell everyone about how God alone changed his circumstances. If you know Fred, you know he will tell everyone. He's never met a stranger.

Please keep him in your prayers and shoot him words of encouragement if you can.

Its posts like this that make me feel so fortunate to be a part of a university that is more like a family than an institution.

**EDIT - I didn't see the RIP thread.**

Just wanted to update this. Fred passed on Saturday. Here is what I posted on Facebook today:

A hero of our university, Fred Robinette will be laid to rest today. If you knew Fred, you loved Fred. He was the most genuine and energetic advocate for ASU. He loved his Mountaineers and helped shape the university that we see today in many ways. He helped start the Appalachian Student Ambassadors and the The Yosef Club.

Watagua Democrat Article about Fred: http://www2.wataugademocrat.com/News/st ... -id-013854

My favorite Fred story: I was really young when my grandfather pass away and didn't really get to know him. He was really involved in helping start up the Yosef Club with Fred. The first time I met Fred, he told me story after story about my grandfather. It was really cool to hear him speak about my grandfather and I appreciate getting to know him through those stories Fred told me.

If you knew Fred, you too will have stories like this. He was a great man and a champion of ASU.

If you are a friend of Fred's or a friend of ASU, I think it would be a great tribute to make a donation (if you feel led) to the scholarship fund in his memory (and in honor of his wife).

To make a donation, go to https://secure.www.alumniconnections.co ... orm_id=862

Under "Affiliation", write the fund name in the comments: Fred T. and Priscilla S. Robinette Scholarship for Student Ambassadors

Feel free to leave a story about Fred and be in prayer for his family as they deal with the loss of a husband, father and grandfather.
