Indoor facility. Sofield is down.

Unread post by appdaze » Fri Jul 18, 2025 8:28 pm

With the softball field moving, this looks to be a massive facility. Does anyone have access to blueprints as to what all will go in this?

I know a 100 yard field and a physical therapy clinic are part of the plan, but not sure what else may be implemented there.

Will endzones be included to make it 120 yards long? Just curious.

How many schools have full size indoor facilities? Do they make the ceilings high enough to allow for punting?

To be building this says that App State is all in on football and has some high expectations.

Expectations and enthusiasm has remained high despite recent dips in performance. No conference championships since 2019. Hopefully that changes soon!

I’d say all of the P4 schools have an indoor facility. I wouldn’t think all of them have high enough ceilings to punt in, but probably a decent amount. I would think most, if not all, also have full size fields.

G5 isn’t as luxurious, obviously. I know Marshall has a 120 yard indoor facility, and then on the flip side I believe JMUs is only 40 yards. I know a few of the southern SBC schools have gone the route of throwing a roof over a practice field, but otherwise it’s open air.

I think this facility indicates a pretty heavy commitment from App, I would imagine this will be one of the better indoor facilities in the G5.

In the Sun Belt the following schools have indoor practive facilities...App, Ark State, Marshall, ULL, Coastal, South Alabama & Southern Miss all have indoor facilities (i'm unsure it a ball can be punted in them but they all appear to greater than 50 yards in length).

Georgia Southern has a covered field that is exposed to weather and JMU has a small 180' x 180' facility...its cute

Troy has plans to build one

LaTech, ULM, Georgia State do not have one...

Probably more than we think can accommodate punting. Dartmouth's IPF can.accomdate punting. That sample size of one extrapolated to actual football schools😂😂😂

I'm almost 100% positive that our new indoor facility is going to be 120 yds and high enough to hold full practices. In other news I rode by the new Coastal indoor facility and it looked full length and high enough for punts as well.

WIth a full length IPF it's time to make the temporary seats under the NEZ permanent with wings almost connecting to the sides.

Agreed. This is much less of a cost, in the interim, than the proposed East tower. The set up with temporary stands is tight for players coming in and out onto the field. Although happens on 6 or 7 times a year, it is a let down the field entry at beginning of the game...and the music choice is not the best. Little things.... however it does set the stage for fans etc at beginning of game.

I was not a fan of doing this in the beginning as my contract for my seats allowed for field access. I for one used it sparingly so losing it doesn’t bother me outside of the language of the contract. That being said, the folks that got in early got a deal versus what it costs now to get in so I doubt anyone cares what the OG seat holders think. I do wonder if the Hatley Family would have any issues since they paid for the rights to that space under the seats.

For me a game is all about the entire experience and even those seemingly small things matter. The intro music, the announcer, the band playing, players running on the field, etc. If our game folks don’t consider these things that add to the experience people notice. Different people look for different things. Some may not care anymore about “welcome to the rock” or even playing Back in Black because times change but certain traditions should stay.

With you 100% . If they are so determined to have the Alabama song played. Do it way earlier. Give me some hard rock like you said. Va. Tech helps set the standard. Enter Sandman...

Yeah that was a sore spot for a lot of folks. I wonder if it got scrapped when the stands started to collapse and they had to add the extra support beams underneath the stands.

Not 100% sure...but heard it had to be scrapped due construction reasons.

The stands were supposed to be supported by the building. But when they set them, they started pulling away from the building. Next time you are up there, take a look at the support beams on top of the columns. None of that was supposed to be there.
