Yep that just about does for schools like App. No way we have $20m extra to dole out. Football at the bigs will pretty much get that money with some big basketball programs paying role players huge salaries.

We all know it's coming and where it is headed. Small programs like ours will have no place in it. We had one hell of a run. I just wish the circus would end and they formed the college pro league already so everyone can figure out what to do in the aftermath.

I’ve held onto a long standing theory in life that most issues like crime for example are because of the 1 percenters. I’d like to believe that 99% of the population tries to lead a “normal” life and that majority abides by not only the law but by common sense. College athletics has been turned upside down because of probably 1% of the truly top athletes who command the money. What has been lost in this new world are the kids who not only value a full ride athletic scholarship but simply still enjoy competing at this level. There are countless young people who are realistic to know they won’t ever get paid professionally and covet the opportunity to not only compete in college but to also earn a degree. We do see gloom and doom but I agree we focus so much on football that we almost completely forget the many other sports that exist and those young people who not only want to play but don’t absolutely expect big added paydays. Perhaps football and maybe even basketball needs to allow for a semipro league and the other 90% of colleges can stay in a somewhat traditional mode. I would think that fans and students would still attend and support games and sports even if their teams might be excluded from championships they realistically won’t win anyway. Perhaps this has become a pipe dream but maybe not.

You're probably right, but so is T-Dog. I've posted about it too. Literally almost every thread on this site eventually devolves into "what happened to the game I love?" or "this is the end of college sports. I won't watch ever again."
It's a change. It will have positive and negative repercussions. Such is life. The only thing constant is change. I'm more than happy to discuss how these changes will affect App, but can we PLEASE temper the "well, that's it. College sports are dead!" chatter?

I still believe this is far from over. Will it change? Probably - however, will the top 1% be able to sustain dominance? Who knows..... College sports have always been supported by the underdog. Everyone will get tired of the same schools year after year - being in the championship game. There is something to be said about parity and rivalries etc.... And, if you look at the top teams in football - will the fans want to watch to the same 20 teams each year?

I still believe that college sports will be ok in the long term - it may look different - however, college sports will survive.

I get what he’s saying. The Marcus Cox thread, for example, devolved into a thread like this. Marcus Cox. There are other similar threads that have nothing to do with the situation going forward, but somehow we end up there. So, I ask if it’s too much for us to refrain from allowing threads that have nothing to do with doom and gloom and/or change to devolve into such.

I don't think college sports will disappear for schools like us as there are still plenty of kids wanting to play, and plenty of people wanting to watch (at least for now). My fear is we'll see history repeat itself and another I-AA/FCS scenario will unfold. Interest in that division is very low outside of the Mid-West and Pacific Northwest.

What positives do people see for the programs and fans outside of the P4? Players get some compensation now but that's about it from my point of view.

Can someone give more insight on why TIGMA is ceasing all efforts? Explain it to me like I am a 5th grader LOL.

I suspect that people with more sense than money have determined that it makes zero financial sense to hand money over to young and unproven (so to speak) college football players at (sorry about this) App State. Is there a single large business in our main viewer market who really needs an App State football or basketball player to “represent” them?
