What is this? The QR Code lead to a sign up sheet. Is this a calling all band alumni for a Homecoming concert?

This is a pretty old visual, I think that was the interest form for current marchers to sign up for the band. Completely separately, I’ve heard from the assistant director of the BOD that he wants to bring back the alumni band

The fine print says "2024 intent form."

What I would give for the Marching Mountaineers to NOT do a classic rock-inspired show for once. For ONCE.

I mean, we have so many options at our disposal, like Luke Combs' entire discography and musicians from Western North Carolina (Doc Watson, Roberta Flack, Old Crow Medicine Show, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, James Taylor, etc), but it seems like we fall back on doing classic rock EVERY SINGLE SEASON now. I understand if our Band Director has a thing for classic rock, like most of us do, but we gotta switch it up from time to time. I can't hear one more Marching Mountaineer rendition of "Paint It Black" or "Stairway to Heaven" without losing it.

Alright, rant over. Back to more important things in life. 🀣

Hmmm. I thought the complaint would be about an Earth Wind and Fire/Chicago tribute. That’s usually the fallback.

Thriller set the bar pretty high a few years ago.

How about a show with nothing but John Philip Sousa arrangements?

I don’t thinks most of those would translate to marching music well but I 1000% agree with the overall staleness of the band

As a former BOD mellophone/ French horn player I would hate nothing more than to perform this show.

The music is only as good as the arrangement and some of those songs do not have good arrangements.

One song that does not have a good arrangement is the Star Spangled Banner. That is why there are so many arrangements of it out there. Also everyone is familiar with the song so everyone knows when it is performed differently from what they expect.

Also if you have a good show everyone copies your show. If you were in the band in the eighties to now most bands play the same songs, because those are the songs that have good arrangements and translate well to marching bands. It is really something how many songs that bands play were used in the movie The Blues Brothers. Basically, a great show has more to do with the crowd knowing the music or the tunes are so catchy you cannot help, but like them.
