Re: Chancellor Kenneth E. Peacock
Chancellor Peacock is a great example of how you don't need to set out to change the world, you just need to change YOUR world. He won't be remembered by the world at large. However, he will be remembered by us, the thousands of alumni he impacted in ways large and small. I'll never forget that, when I received my diploma and shook his hand, he called me by the name I go by, not the name on my diploma. It blew my mind because I had only interacted with him maybe 2 or 3 times in my time at App State. I'm proud his signature is on my diploma.

Sad day but what a legend and a life well lived. Many people are better for knowing you, Chancellor. Myself included.

Very sad news to hear. He was the chancellor during my time at App and was so personable and you could tell he truly cared about the university.

Son of a B#$&+. Do y'all realize how far we are going to have to carry the goal posts to get them in his front yard now? Get those hiking boots on boys and girls. It's a long walk up Mount Olympus.
RIP Champ. I hope we make a new tradition for him like a pregame "peacock walk" to the stadium or peacock pushups or something.
Edit:
Fan walk. Peacock hall to the stadium. Hype the fans at the steps of Peacock Hall and then march up stadium drive to the gates chanting and singing. Let's do it!! THE PEACOCK WALK!

Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. He did not care where others thought Appalachian's place was. He gave his ALL for Appalachian State.
I hope the football team will honor him with a KP sticker, or something like that.

Its been a hike for quite a while since he moved down the mountain to Bermuda Run, NC where he served a term on the town board. He came in the office where I work a few times and we always chatted about the National Championship days and how much the university had grown. A fine man. He will be missed.appdaze wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 1:14 pmSon of a B#$&+. Do y'all realize how far we are going to have to carry the goal posts to get them in his front yard now? Re: Chancellor Kenneth E. Peacock
Totally agree. When you saw the chancellor doing push-ups in the student section, firing the rifle, and indulging at a few tailgates it was hard not to love him as a student at that time. He was the very best. You nailed it. He made it very normal to be obsessed with App.

I loved that man, very sad day.
GO APPS!!

Always nice when I talked to him either running into him around town around football game days or back when I was a non-student sitting in student section and he would pass the Nat Championship trophies around the crowd.

Re: Chancellor Kenneth E. Peacock
Tough loss. A great Mountaineer. He loved App and he loved App students...and I've never seen chancellor more beloved in return from the students. I met him a few times; got a pic with him at my graduation. He told us a funny story of how the NCAA had gotten onto him...had instructed him and App "your chancellor should stay in his box" during the playoff games...he got so excited telling the story, holding onto my shoulder, he kept coming closer to me to where I had to back up lol...guess a chancellor standing on the push-up board being carried by the cheerleaders in front of the student body carrying a national championship trophy wasn't proper to them. This was during our 3rd championship playoff run...he promptly ignored them and was back on the sidelines for the next playoff game haha. RIP.

Love hearing that. You got lucky on that one. I feel bad for the folks who had previous people in charge sign their degrees. Ken is a legend and will be truly missed! RIP, Mr Chanceller.

As soon as I saw the title my heart dropped. He was a great example of living life passionately and did great things for App.
Let's win one for him Tuesday. Our rivalry with Coastal started a bit after his time, but he would've hated them.

What a significant loss for the ASU community and the high country. I first knew him as the pianist at the church I attended in my youth. Honestly, the finest church pianist I have ever heard.
I graduated before he became chancellor but his efforts as such helped the university tremendously. I’m sorry to hear of his passing.

Mine too. Almost disappointing isn’t it?ASUTodd wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 5:02 pmBorkowski..... yeah... his name is on mine.
But seriously, it would be absolutely amazing if there was some way to organize taking a goalpost all the way to Winston Salem. I’d hike it a mile or two, for sure. Then cut a chunk off of it and put it in the ground with him. He’s forever black and gold.
Give 'em hell!

Yep. Mine as well. Just remember the governor forcing him to cancel classes one day because of a curfew. I didn’t get out of my parking lot for a week.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 5:02 pmBorkowski..... yeah... his name is on mine.
