It really was kind of dangerous walking across that parking lot... I lived in Bowie freshman year My room has been chiseled away thankfully. My oldest lived in Bowie for 2 years as a freshman and then as a sophomore RA. Those dorms sucked. With the increase in quality of students being admitted these days when I went into the dorms a couple of years ago to visit my son they were clean there was no smell of urine or vomit... Was pretty remarkableArmantiWaterSafety wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 7:38 amOne of my first "college experiences" was in Bowie Hall. Risked my life crossing the stadium parking lot from Justice to Bowie when it was freezing rain too...ah memories.

Eggers seemed dated in 1982. Can't believe it's just now being replaced.

1973-1974 I was in Bowie 903 facing Eggers. Lots of good times with great friends in that dorm. From 9th floor water balloons made a wonderful "splat!" on unsuspecting victims below. A couple friends who will remain anonymous were notorious for shooting giant bottle rockets at security writing parking tickets in Stadium Lot. Another anonymous friend was seriously into shooting tennis balls from his tennis ball cannon at open windows in Eggers. Good times were had by all.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Frank and Belk were both renovated in the last 10 years and are pretty state of the art so they're not going anywhere. All of the East campus dorms have been renovated as well with the exception of old East hall which is going to be used for the next several years as swing office space for faculty and staff.appdaze wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 9:04 pmI think it's pretty current. I was up there a month ago, and they still lived. I had to drive around the unknown regions where so many memories are now buried under progress to get one more glimpse of Frank Hall before its likely future death. I don't know what they will replace those two with, but it needs to be another parking deck because even with the new one right next to it that was my first thought was, "where is everyone going to park?" The campus and 321 coming into campus have become the mountain top high rise city.
It will be a really nice tailgating a lot so the top of the new Winkler parking deck will flow pretty seamlessly into this new surface deck for tailgating and parking. If an additional parking deck is going to be built on that side of campus it's likely going behind the Rick Athletics Center. The new Holmes deck will be finished in 2024 and then next up will be a deck beside of Peacock Hall

Freshman year in 06 was Gardner, but lived in Eggers sophomore year. While it was an upgrade , Eggers just didn’t have the charm Gardner did. I do like how beautiful this side of campus has become, but I miss duck pond. It was fun to go out and throw baseball or have some pick up football games there. Oh, and watching the fine ladies of App suntan when it got warm.

App has been in a constant state of construction since 2000, which sucked because I had all the shortcuts on campus figured out until they started blocking everything....especially when your major is in Kerr Scott Hall while your minor is in Raley.

How the heck do you guys remember your dorm room numbers after all these years? I was on the 3rd floor of Eggers, facing the parking lot. 2nd room from the end closest to the football stadium.

Sounds like you might have been in room 312. It was an all girls dorm when I was in school. We will leave it at that.

Eggers, Bowie, the two across the road. They were all crappy and tiny, but that was a right of passage. It was fun.

I think those who miss the stadium lot miss it specifically because of the tailgating aspect. There is little doubt in my mind that the aesthetics and function of the campus are being upgraded significantly with the new construction.

I was a student from 2002-2007 and stadium lot tailgating sucked. The lot was never more than half full. The party was down in Raley. Free parking. First come first served. The lot would open at like 6am so people would be there bright and early tailgating.

Oh, I don't claim that the Stadium lot was the site of the BEST tailgating. It was the place where higher dollar donors tailgated and was extremely convenient. It also presented the "picture" of a big time game day / tailgating atmosphere and I think many miss that. Please note, I absolutely do NOT begrudge the donors who parked there and I very much appreciate the support they have given the program. I'm only speaking to the overall attitude toward the changes. I think most people ultimately understand that changes have to happen. Sometimes it just steps on our nostalgic memories.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 7:33 amI was a student from 2002-2007 and stadium lot tailgating sucked. The lot was never more than half full. 901 Bowie 1980-81
We called it Cloud 9 and some of the guys painted a mural in the lobby area in front of the elevators.
Lots of memories.
RIP Cloud 9 Bowie
