In sticking with today’s climate, it might be offensive to us mountain folk.

Kidding, I do wish we had both, a real person, and our current mascot.

What we really need is a Yosefine or Ms. Yosef.

Let me ask for a clarification. Is this the 80th anniversary of "Yosef" being the name given to the mascot? It seems to line up with the timing of that happening, but I thought the Mountaineer was used as the mascot prior to the Yosef name being assigned by the yearbook staff.

OK...I did pull up the article on AppStateSports and it did confirm that Appalachian was called the Mountaineers previously but hap no official mascot prior to the first appearance of Yosef in the 1942 annual, which was not intended to be lasting, but obviously caught on (paraphrasing).

I hope no one ever decides to come after our mascot and team name, because it is not politically correct anymore.

I hope so too, but...

Who in their right mind would have thought George Washington would become politically incorrect   . But that seems to be the case, they are changing their mascot from the “Colonials.” Apparently that’s not enough, they want to remove our first President’s name as well.

We live in a clown world.

You may want to edit that post so you don't give a small group of angry indoctrinated students something to go after. lol

There was a Yosefine in the late 70s. She was and still is a friend of mine. Her husband was Yosef.

Don't know where you got that piece of info - I went to the source - Fox

The committee outlined why those who favored the nickname supported it, saying it was a term for those who lived in the American colonies before the U.S. became independent and for those who fought for independence. The committee said that for those who opposed it, "Colonials means colonizers who stole land and resources from Indigenous groups, killed or exiled Native peoples and introduced slavery into the colonies."

The committee said George Washington "firmly rejected" the term colonial, and the term itself "was not used during the 1607-1776 Colonial era, and it did not become popular until the Colonial Revival period of the late 19th and 20th centuries."

If they do away with Yosef and Mountaineers we can always be the Appalachian Yourselfs.

Why does every other thread on this board end up becoming ranting from Fox cable daily talking points???? Y'all all got way too much time on your hands. Go get a job....

The current Yosef is the best. The 1980s was the worst.

That is the Yosef I measure all other Yosefs against. I have yet to see another Yosef that can bend his fingers back and touch the back of his hand with them.

Here she is in all her glory. Came across this in an old App State yearbook I found at an AirBnB.
