This has been discussed in some form or another for a few years.

There is an ASU office in Hickory off Highland Ave. I was driving around Hickory, I think before Covid and looking at parts of Hickory I had not visited for a few years and checking out the rail line for some light railfanning and ran across an App State sign by a building that would have been in a bit of an industrial park. I can't remember if this was on my old phone or my current phone but I took a picture, but can't remember the signage beyond the App State name and logo. It was in an area that surprised me to see App State. Anyone in Hickory can help track this down I had forgotten about this until I posted the link above.

Glad to see our Hickory presence grow beyond just some classes into its own campus.

ASU-Hickory is going to do a lot of good and contribute more to the growth of the area.

I was asking about what the small building was used for on Highland Ave. That building was on the Lenoir-Rhyne side of downtown getting close to where Springs Rd intersects Highland Ave, though I am not sure if Springs Rd is actually called Springs Rd at this point. I am going to try and find this building on Google Street View.

The building just purchased is pretty obvious for anyone in that area. I think this building was at one time used for the furniture mart that is not only based in High Point but at one time the furniture market had some showrooms in High Point and Hickory and Lenoir decades ago and when everything consolidated to High Point this new purchase became under the use of Corning and now ASU.

I assume the small building of Highland was something leased and may have been some as mundane as an office space for the professors that help with student teachers, but it seemed to be more than than based on my memory of what was on the sign. It may have been a space that was not even used daily.

I could not leave this without an answer so I dug around. What I was thinking of is the Small Business and Technology Development Center. SBTDC offices are located all around the state and tied to various universities.

I wonder if something like this will take up space in the new building near the airport. I imagine the funding comes from a pot of money that goes to App State specifically for this or might not even be paid by App State but App State puts their name on it and hires the employees.

I assume the old Nichols dept store building will go unused by App State and be used only for CVCC purposes.

I actually finished up my last year at the satellite campus in Hickory 10 years ago. Glad to see they are expanding it.

Hickory is the place our teams usually fly out of, and our opponents usually fly into. It is well suited to take us to another level. Maybe even a Med School if the politics ever get right. Hickory is already a regional health care provider attracting a lot of retirees. This is nothing but good news for us!

GT, UGA and (believe it or not) GASO all have satellite campuses across the state in a variety of settings, both urban and rural.
