Rainbow Kitten Surprise

I am excited to hear that RKS is playing in Seattle on Aug 9th. Their show is supporting Fred Hutch Cancer Institute Fundraiser, Obliteride. For those who do not know RKS, the band formed in a dorm room on Appstate Campus years ago. They recently in the last couple years have become a big name in music. Their present tour takes them to CLT on Sept 27 and Greenville, SC on the 28th.

Were they music majors and/or involved in the record label run out of the Hayes School of Music?

A couple were of members were in the Hayes School of Music, and another was in the Computer Science program. First record was through the student run Split Nail Records.

After your post I took the time to check out their Wikipedia page and it mentions all of this.
Hopefully they remember their roots and have and will continue to give back to Hayes and the general Appalachian Fund. I don't know how unique something like Split Nail Records is, but that seems like a nice addition to our university.

They exist at quite a few universities (Columbia College Chicago, Drexel, MYU, Syracuse and CSU-Northridge have one), but I'd say it's pretty unique. I hope they are able to give back as well and boost the community they came from.

With football season coming up, Wanted to bring RKS back up. I love it when we promote our own during football games and All that and More is a killer song that the students would jam out to. Also saw this article and thought I would share:

I don't think it is a bad name. After 60+ years of rock bands the list of names is running thin.

I don't think it is a bad name. After 60+ years of rock bands the list of names is running thin.
You are right about names running out. My stance is always, if you give your band a joke name people will think you are a joke band. May not be fair assumption but I see rainbow kitten surprise and i immediately discount them as a serious band.

I don't really follow them (RKS) but they have an App connection so I wish them well. I likely would enjoy their music more than Combs or Church, but I really don't care for the sort of country Combs and Church made. I like a good singer-songwriter such as the late Nanci Griffith. I like folk-country, not rock-country I guess is the best way to put it. But I digress.

a lot of band names are silly until they have continuous commercial/ and or appeal. Led Zeppelin? Smashing Pumpkins? The Beatles? Def Leppard?
Don't make no sense.
