This is fine, highly positive news and certainly one outcome of the recent BoT meeting. Perhaps there are other positive outcomes of that meeting that are yet to be finalized and announced.

Is this a teaser or just a hope for?

Fear of affecting the future cannot inhibit you in making a decision to extend a coach.

I don't know if you can still call it a fear when the effect has already been felt.

Probably the wrong word but you can't afford to make an extension decision unless you are confident it is your guy. It's hard because he did not hire Jim.

Gillin has some pressure due to how poorly basketball and other sports have performed since he arrived.

Time to find players that want to be part of a basketball program the will have the resources to succeed with Fox or with the next coach.

Let's be very blunt and simple. You are the AD and you are considering you next MBB coach.
Option A: A coach the has a 45-78 (.366) overall record and 29-47 (.382) in conference record over the last 4 years.
Option B: Find a new coach with a better track record of success over their most recent past.

At this moment I don't even have to think about it.

I don't think some of you realize the damage Capel and the Devonte mess did to the program and how far behind we were.

I really think we've beat this whole extend/don't extend issue to death. This thread is to celebrate DG getting HIS extension so let's just give him credit for making a good decision here. I'm going to assume that he has WAY more information on which to base his decision than we do. I think it is safe to say that EVERYONE is frustrated with the W/L percentage, but that is not the only metric that Fox should be accountable for.

Let's just trust DG and support the decision....whatever it might be.

I agree with that. I’m having a hard time thinking of a move DG has made I haven’t agreed with.

I believe you’re underestimating the resources it would take it hire a proven (aka WINNING) coach to coach basketball in Boone. App State is not a destination job for a winning coach. The next hire IMO will be another guy like Fox. Someone from a great program who wants to prove they can be a successful head coach. Wes Miller just got a raise from UNCG and I know for a 100% fact that he wouldn’t have come to Boone for the salary he’s making now ($300K).

Thats a very shallow view of the situation. You simply can’t give the won/loss record over the past four years any serious consideration given the total devastation of the program by Capel during his stint. We all thought it would take 3-5 years to climb out of the abyss we had fallen into.
