Yep. Checkered table cloths and all. Spent a lot of time there when it was one of the only places in town. People not from Boone don't know that we had a town wide celebration when Hardees opened up.

My older brother was a curb hop at Stamey's, he was friends with the owners son. I remeber when Hardees came to town. My brother comes home laughing and said, "They just brought Hardees into town on wheels." If memory serves me correct, the first Hardees was located where The Flick Theature ended up at. And, it was moduler (sp).

You're correct. They really wanted to get a jump on their business while they built the first building. Remember the first KFC was on the side of a cliff going out 321 towards Tweetsie. I always remember seeing the red and white "Bucket on a Pole" when I was a kid.

Just the mention of his establishment, after all these years, is cause for a tip of the ol' hat to Boone's Buford Stamey and his once-famous Pizza-Burger. I'd order one right now if I could.

There is a reason there are thousands of Applebees' and only one black cat...

Applebee's serves you a glorified Lean Cuisine as you overpay and finance their television commercials.

I understand familiarity and eating the same crappy meal for decades appeals to some, but the moment you try a Toas Boat at Coyote Kitchen, named the best dish in the High Country in 2013, you might have a food epiphany.

Nothing like enjoying a game at KBS in the fall, followed by a great meal at Applebees.

Don't like Chris Berman on the commercial spots doe.

It is all about personal choice. I personally don't like Coyote Kitchen. I personally hate Crapplebees. Back to the subject a close friend of mine is a GM at an one of Boone's big chain restaurants and he has heard Buffalo Wild Wings is probably bound for the old Ruby Tuesdays. I can handle that. Any place that has football on 20+ TV's at once is my kind of place.

Tried a BWW for the first time recently this past fall. Perhaps it was what I ordered, but I was unimpressed and felt beer prices were a bit much as well. Maybe I am spoiled by tAPP Room's wings.

Y'all should try the Painted Fish in Banner Elk next time you're able. That place is incredible.

Having gone to App and Watauga High I was a huge fan of Los and Dos until I tried Puerto. Puerto is IMO by far the best Mexican restaurant (black cat is a burrito joint not a Mexican restaurant) in the high country.

Update on the old Ruby's both Carabas and Buffalo Wild Wings are looking at it. Fine with either.
