People did barter a lot back then, and got by fine. Reminds me of that ol' tune that goes, "in the good ol' days, when times were bad", yep.

Glad to do it. I was impressed by the number of well dressed people, men in coats and ties, and so few overalls. Surprised to see the barber shop on Kings Street at the same basement location it is today (or was a few years ago). About 30 seconds one of the men shown appears to be either BB or DD Dougherty.NewApp wrote:The quality of the film, despite its storage, from 1936, was extremely impressive. That's roughly 88 years. Surely it was copied to video years ago, but even in that there was a loss of quality via the transfer.
Thanks for sharing, kingfish.

The number of well-dressed men and women who just happened by on the street was impressive. If we didn't know the year and the circumstances, we'd never think "depression" by watching this footage.

I would guess that the photographer was selective in whom he chose to photograph.asu66 wrote:Kgfish wrote:Glad to do it. Also a lot of outer wear was made with wool and made to last. People didn't out grow their clothes as much (get fat). Also many parts (collars, etc) wear replaceable. Everyone had at least one suit (including vest) and hat. Many hobo had a suit. lolNewApp wrote:I would guess that the photographer was selective in whom he chose to photograph.asu66 wrote:Kgfish wrote:Glad to do it.
