Read through that list of teams but could not find App State, maybe we just weren't mentioned. I did see #25 Catawba College and found this pretty interesting:

"The Catawba College Solar Vehicle Team began in Spring 2025, when Dr. Lee Ball launched a partnership with Appalachian State’s Team Synergy. Students visited their shop, building interest that led to the donation of Apperion."

Seems App State is spreading the love and getting others involved. Good to hear.
It’s all the way at the bottom. “828 Autumn.” I have no clue why it’s last.
Each team has a number, which I assume they make up themselves, as long as there is not conflict with another teams. Team synergy uses the telephone area code for Boone. And it happens to be the highest number used. A have bothered to verify this but the other schools with three digit numbers may also be using area codes.
Thanks. I racked my brain for longer than I should admit on this. I even consulted the JCline’s “favorite” website.

Day 2 was overcast I read and that seemed to help App State. They started the day in 2nd place in the MOV class but was the only MOV team to make it to the checkpoint before the day ended. I am not sure how much of a impact that has on scores as the race is not just a flat out, first to finish line race, though that is 50$ from what I have read about the rules.

Still a long way to go but App State looking good.

I am not sure what is up with up to date reporting but Monday was either a very bad day for App State or live tracking is not up to date. I am not sure if we finished Stage 1 though it seems the other two MOV teams have done so.

EDIT: As I thought we had to get trailered in before the end of stage 1. We had more miles so I am not sure how all of that works but even with more miles and points we are sitting in third at the end of stage one of four.

Scores for each stage don't seem to be posted on the contests website. Mostly tracking times and a live map. But ASC did post on a social media site that starts with F and ends with k the results after stage 1. App State just posted on their FB page that they were the overall winners of Stage 2. Stage 3 starts today so at the halfway point.

Scoring is a bit of an unknown, but in NASCAR terms we just crossed the finish line in 1st, 25-30 miles ahead of the next MOV car.

Supposedly won stages 2 & 3 of a 4 stage race.

App won stage 3 based on a post on FB by the team. So won stage 2 and stage 3 and I am not sure how stage 1 enters into all of this since the car had to be taken by trailer somewhere near the end of that stage.

Live Stream is here https://www.youtube.com/live/kaqfmqLYegc. I am watching a bit delayed and fast forwarding through a lot of stuff

Won the MOV Practicality Award 2026. There were other awards given to other schools for other reasons.

But the important event is ----
MOV 3rd Place Georgia Tech
MOV 2nd Place Poly Montreal
MOV 1st Place Team Team APP STATE!!!!!!

I was watching this and as nervous as a football game, maybe not beating Michigan or a bowl game win on the last play of the game but I was generally nervous.

Won the whole thing for MOV. Took this screenshot - specifically because of the comment. Absolutely amazing the class of engineering schools we bested in qualifying then in the race itself.

Give them a few dollars if you can. They deserve some funding from alumni as much as any other group on campus.

I think the single occupancy vehicles is pretty much fastest car wins. The multi occupancy vehicles that app state was competing in is a combination of a few factors such as occupancy miles which I assume means one could have three in a car and that would be three occupancy miles, which would be better than having two in a car, which should of course only be two occupancy miles for the same this is driven on the road course part of all of this, which was technically a separate competition. There was a lot of other factors that play with the scrutineering.

Then there’s an extra lapse one can take at the end of stages, which obviously add to the score but how much and how that works and if that’s just using leftover energy. The MOV cars can recharge along the way and there are some math involved in how much energy use from outside of the car to panels or so it seems.
