We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Re: If you could change App.
We've done it in the past with minimal turnout. Essentially taking away a spring practice isn't the best. Players also don't like them. They are pointless.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 11:48 amAnother change...have a spring FB game open to the public with a fan fest like event for public. Just IMO, want to get more people invested in program on personal level by meeting players, coaches, support staff.
Additionally, we start spring ball way earlier now so good chance of bad weather if we had a spring game. When it was in May, turn out was bad. Imagine it in early April when snow is still on the horizon.

If the UNC BOG stops rejecting our efforts to get more PhD programs, we would already have them!
Simply put, the baby blue riddled BOG is afraid of our growth and is doing everything in it's power to make sure it doesn't continue.

Makes sense. They want us at 20k but no need for additional degrees or programs.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 6:50 pmIf the UNC BOG stops rejecting our efforts to get more PhD programs, we would already have them!

I would paint over the tunnels every game day. I support free speech and free expression, but as an alumnus, I don’t like walking my children and friends through the tunnels, seeing them covered in foul language, calling out players, etc.
If they painted them at 2 AM on Sat mornings with a message supporting our Mountaineers and fans, “welcome to homecoming”, “welcome parents”, ‘celebrating first responders’, etc. We routinely have ESPN and other national broadcasters on campus, we all want our school to put its best foot forward. In my opinion, the tunnels routinely take away from Boone and App.

That is going to be a hard genie to put back in the bottle and the expense to monitor is best used elsewhere in my opinion. Painting for Saturday homes games is a great idea, but a 2 AM wake up call would be hard for me personally.Boone Goon wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 8:32 amI would paint over the tunnels every game day. And if you kids are old enough to read then it is not going to do any great harm and if they are too young to read then they don't know what all it says anyways. There is also the bridge for crossing the road and the at-grade near the music building that allow avoiding the tunnels if someone is really that sensitive.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Re: If you could change App.
The idea of this thread is ‘what would you change?’ …not ‘what can we afford’ to change? But even with that said, this is the cheapest of all the ideas = A couple buckets of paint and rollers.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 4:13 pmThat is going to be a hard genie to put back in the bottle and the expense to monitor is best used elsewhere in my opinion. My point isn’t that mom’s walk through clutching their pearls…it’s that the tunnels take away from App & Boone. If you think otherwise you’re not paying attention to our donors or our new enrollments. No one walks through there and says ‘this is awesome! I wish these comments were in more areas of Boone and not just here.’
There’s no downside to painting it!

I like the idea of painting the tunnels the night before each home game. Do something classy…
“Beat the Stink” “Deeper than Hate” “I just hate purple” “Take that orange sweater boy” “Beat the thundering turds” “Tastes like beach chickens” “Whip OD Who”.

1 athletic item/building
I think football is pretty well taken care of at this point as are basketball and baseball/softball. All things considered those sports facilities are in pretty good standing. It would be great if some love could be thrown to wrestling or ice hockey. It would be awesome to have a real rink on campus where we could accommodate multiple sports/clubs.
1 campus building
I know we are extremely limited on space so this one is more of a pipe dream, but taking down Belk Hall to extend Sanford mall would look awesome for the campus. I think part of the Belk space could have an amphitheater for outdoor concerts/plays/events.
1 campus infrastructure
The area behind Holmes, the parking lot at SRC, and the parking lot behind Doughton should all be 3 level parking decks.
1 Boone city item
app and Boone continue to grow they have got to find a way to make the entire towns traffic pattern not revolve around one stop light, aka the Wendy's light. I'd also be pondering the impact/value of the Boone mall.
1 App tradition
I just want a true black and gold original. We've copied way too much from other schools. Live it up for the mountaineer way. I want to buy my drinks in little replica of the old mountain jug. Let me pay $150 a year for a personalized jug that gets me 3 refills per home game. Put up log cabin materials over all the concession stands area. Give Yosef a cabin on the hill. Just something to help create an atmosphere of mountaineer originality. I also feel like we are pushing the band to the side.

The expansion of degrees both graduate and undergraduate has already been mentioned. I think another item would be greater student engagement on campus beyond football games.

It's too late now to do this, but I would have a visiting locker room for football that isn't on the West side. I still shake my head when I think about the decision to use that facility for the visiting team while building a whole new facility in the endzone.

Putting the visiting locker room under the West stands may be the worst decision ever made.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 7:28 amIt's too late now to do this, but I would have a visiting locker room for football that isn't on the West side. The Capel hire when McMahon was available was the worst move in the history of App State athletics.
Not moving up in football with ECU way back when is a VERY close second.

Re: If you could change App.
If we had gone I-AA then App would be just like ECU chasing the dream, instead of living the dream. How many NCAA Championships in football does ECU have? I bet ECU thought at the time, we are going to be big time just like NC State, Duke, Wake Forest, and UNC-Ch.
ECU is still waiting for that call from the ACC.
Appalachian has not tried to be like someone else.
Appalachian has just made those around it better.

Re: If you could change App.
Moving at that particular time was a pipe dream. We were barely meeting the minimum number of schoarships to stay in SoCon even. Our stadium wasn't nearly big enough to meet Div I-A minimum requirements. We couldn't raise money worth a crap for scholarships, etc. There are people who would debate this but it was a stretch to say we were ready. ECU wasn't exactly burning up the road their few years until the leg forced NC State and I think UNC to play them and they got all cocky because they upset the big boys a few times. ECU was admitting anyone could walk and chew gum at the same time. They weren't called EZU for nothing.

Re: If you could change App.
Is it for sure McMahon really wanted the job other than just expressing an interest?

Yes, McMahon wanted to be here. I fully think he would still be here and want to stay here if he was given the opportunity. Fortunately, Cobb is gone so that bridge is no longer broken with Matt. However, we could never afford him now.
