Auto Mechanic in Boone
Here is a recurring theme it seems on this board.
My daughter does not think her car will make it down the mountain after the game Saturday. Can anyone recommend a local mechanic she can take her car to and I don't have to worry about them taking advantage of a college student that has very little car sense? (and by extension me since I will be footing the bill.)
Closer to campus the better but anymore in the Boone area is close enough.

I've never been a big car guy so I am a fairly easy target for mechanics. I thought the fellas at Idol's tire were always fair with me when I was in school.
Don't go to custom tire and muffler over behind the Subaru dealership...awful experience.

Thanks for the replies. I send this off to my daughter in a bit. Other suggestions are still welcome.

I have been using castle auto on 194 and Howard's creek for over 20 years. John salmi is the owner and Deron is the other mechanic and they are as honest as they come. Hell, they they even tell me to get right with god from time to time...but we do trade outs and they always try to fit me in if I'm in a bind 264-5165

I am glad you replied. I knew you were local to Boone, and might just have a good answer. Thanks (not that I don't appreciate the other replies as well.)PBR1893-BEER-HAT-GUY wrote:I have been using castle auto on 194 and Howard's creek for over 20 years. I used Kelly bros Tire at 421/194 for over a decade. When you find a HONEST mechanic you hold onto them.
Appalachian State, Better than your school since 1899!!!!

Charlie Walker (Welborn Shell) used to work on my car the entire time I lived (grew up) in Boone. Highly recommend him.appgrouch wrote:Welborn's over between the Kangaroo and Laundromat on 421 going to Tenn.

Lot of friends have used Al-Ray and swear by it. I have used Idol's myself and have never been disappointed.

I would highly recommend the guys at Alray's, which is on the 105 Ext. Those guys have never been anything except honest and fair, often times looking at my car, making a small repair without charging. They're also HUGE App fans and have some cool memorabilia in there. Good luck with the car!

Re: Auto Mechanic in Boone
Al Ray is where I went my entire time in Boone. They were always good to me on price. I remember once I had to have my mom pay for my bill (Poor college kid) and they worked with her to lower the price. I also recall popping my tire NYE on year, and they were in the office doing tax paper work. I called just to give it a shot, and on New Year's Day they answered, told me they were closed but would be willing to plug my tire. Great people. Assuming they have the same people they had when I was in school.

Al-Ray. I've been going to those guys for 20 years. Jimmy and Judd are good guys and it doesn't hurt that they are huge app supporters!
