In Peacock's first year he fired the Roach which provided a catalyst of growth for the athletics department. Without Bork and Roach it was like the chains came off. I miss Ken.

App State didn't have the donor backing our current AD has - the alumni base is just better than it was 25 plus years ago, it happens every school grows.

Nah, he hindered the growth and never believed what could be possible. The difference in donations, attendance, success is glaring. We could refer to App State athletic periods as BL and AL the pivot point was so stark.

Roach wasn't a leader, he was a manager of the status quo.

LR will remain as they are today under his managerial style.

This is funny because Laney didn’t want big money donors. He told people he never wanted the YC to get too big or he would lose power. He never wanted to listen to donors. He also never wanted App to move up. The phrase I got tired of hearing the most from him was “We can’t do that at App State”. Peacock gave him assignments because Ken was such a good man but Laney refused to do anything asked of him so he let him go.

The funny thing about donations was the week he left the YC got more donations in that first week after him than they had the entire year combined prior. That was according to Gerald Adams. Laney made enemies of so many players as well. We never could have moved up if he stayed. He didn’t want to and we had so many who stayed away because they refused to deal with him again.

So can I! Volumes! Stonewall was on point about RL and THE PETER PRINCIPLE...plus he had a hyper vindictive streak in those days. Coaches, players and recruits in revenue and non-revenue sports were on the receiving end of that streak and a number of members of this forum and former Chancellors and BOT members have knowledge of it, also.
