"App State" beers or ales????????????????????????????

Unread post by asu66 » Fri Jun 14, 2024 2:28 am

Hey guys & gals, what beers and ales are out there these days with an APP STATE or block A logo prominently displayed on their bottles or cans?
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

The only one I am aware of is “Mountaineer Brew” from R&D Brewing in Raleigh. They sell them at pretty much all non-Walmart grocery stores. They may sell in Walmart as well, I just don’t ever go in one.

I would save the money though. There are countless beers that taste better. I really wish we would partner with BooneShine for something exclusive.

I’ve never seen them in any grocery stores in Charlotte area. Missed opportunity with the largest App alumni market.

There are at least two breweries in the Charlotte area owned by App alumni. Devine Barrel and Southern Strain. Could be others that I’m not aware. It’d be cool if the two collaborated for an App beer.

I do most of my shopping at Lowe’s Foods and see them there but have also seen them at select Food Lions closer to Boone.

Hoptown Brewery in Mooresville is owned by an APP Grad - this is where they host most of the away game watch parties. AMB had a APP branded beer for a while that was pretty good, but I guess that relationship ended.

All good points, but the deal with R&D was inked because they had adequate production capacity to supply anticipated demand. And that was something other brewers couldn’t or wouldn’t commit to doing.

So there is no demand in Charlotte then?

There are no Lowes Foods inside of 485 to my knowledge

There’s an amazing amount of demand out here. I live in south Charlotte and I see multiple app people out every day. I bought a few cases of Yosef’s golden, but the truth was I didn’t really care for it. Same with the R&D beer.

As a HARDCORE bourbon aficionado I wanted to bring your attention to one bourbon that does have somewhat of a connection to App State. It's a Coffee Cask Single Malt 92P called "Scholar's Craft" from Virginia Distillery. The proceeds from Scholar's Craft are being used to endow a $100,000 scholarship in the fermentation sciences program. I could be wrong but I believe the goal is to bring more women into the field with the scholarship, and to support research, as the founders of Virginia Distillery are females and the distillery, again, I believe, is still female-owned. As to the connection to App State - I'm not so positive but it's a *decent coffee cask, if you like coffee cask bourbons, at the price point, especially with the App connection. I've seen it pretty widely available at most ABC stores from the VA line down 77 to 85 and west to at least here in the Catawba Valley. It even mentions Appalachian State on the bottle, where the proceeds are going, etc., though no logos or anything, as there is no direct university affiliation and this is certainly not an "App State Bourbon"...though I hold out hope for that one day. Ha!

No one’s disagreeing with you, fam. Sounds like there are many people who weren’t happy with the first two App-themed beverages.

Ps- you’re likely to see some App State-themed spirits on the way, thanks to TIGMA and App’s NIL partner.

Since they have a major branch in Hickory they should partner with the Old Hickory Brewery who have been around long enough to really understand the business with an established customer base that includes a lot of App fans.
