Overall inflation was right at 0.1% in 2015 according to a website I looked at. So the Fund grew a bit more than inflation, though I am not sure how much was investment or growth through giving.
I don't have any easy to find numbers for App State specifically (though I could access my daughters account I guess if anyone REALLY wants some hard numbers) but college costs on average have been rising around 3% a year for most colleges but has been as high as 5%. At best the fund is barely keeping pace with costs and most likely it is slipping a little behind.
Hopefully, everything I am posting is moving people to give or give more to the Appalachian Fund. It is a bit depressing to be honest, but not futile and something that makes for a call to action more than a giving up.
On a final note my oldest did get a small merit scholarship for the coming year. I am not sure of the funding source be it from Appalachian Fund or NC Lottery proceeds but happy to have the grant.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.
College decision finally made
