hopefully Ohio's interest will result in a no vote.

You don't call for a vote unless it's a done deal.

It's a done deal. CollegeAD is also reporting it and they're reputable.

Ohio put out feelers and earlier today publicly denied having conversations with the Sun Belt.

I can confirm La Tech now has the minimum number of votes needed. Negotiations are ongoing.

Got to think so. Usually these votes are only done after a straw poll.

Was there hard data provided that proves this move helps all teams financially to flip a few votes?

From what I have read, La Tech does not seem to be a very nice school. They seem to be very condescending. The following video is from five years ago.

I don’t believe that data exists. My thought is , and I could be wrong, that some grew weary of the debate and wanted to just move on.

Kinda lame. I think the sun belt could have done better.

La tech has spent 30 years trying to torpedo ULM if the shoe was on the other foot there’s no way they’d support inviting UL or ULM they should have torpedoed this thing.

Oh well like I said I think big changes are coming in 3 years and I don’t think any conference is going to look like they do now anyway

Their Athletic budget is ~$2.5M more than ULM. I don’t get it. $560K in football ticket sales last fall.

Yup they’re just slightly better Monroe. Very short term decision by ULM and UL

I didn't think so but would welcome seeing it.

I hope App voted yes because we know something better is coming for App/JMU. Hopefully, App knows an Eastern confernce is coming. Either from ACC or AAC....of course after a few big names leave.

My other thought is we owed the west their choice for allowing the East their choice in the last add.

Was told it was a done deal last night. Guess that person knew what they were talking about. I hope they can get their football headed in the right direction, but hoops and baseball are pretty good. They have some nice, new facilities thanks to government funds to rebuild after a hurricane a few years back. The West can't complain about the East getting their way on everything anymore.

Saw your post on twitter and I’m disappointed with the add due to alternatives with higher upside and being better on the field and court than LA Tech than I am with traveling to Ruston, which by the way is a significant downgrade from traveling to San Marcos.

La tech has spent 30 years trying to torpedo ULM if the shoe was on the other foot there’s no way they’d support inviting UL or ULM they should have torpedoed this thing.
Couple of things…

1. Different administrations, not the current one. That matters.
2. Regarding LT wouldn’t do the same for ULM and UL…You don’t and can’t know that.
3. The western schools that pushed for this, ULM, UL, Southern Miss and whoever else must be convinced that the conditions were right and that LT is coming in full bore to be a productive member of the conference. If they’re convinced, I’m ok with it.
4. The east is built on proximity and rivalry. The west deserves to have the same.
5. Any argument that the fans are uncouth and animosity will spring from this would be an argument for why the Sun Belt shouldn’t have added both App and Georgia Southern. It would be an argument for why Marshall shouldn’t have been added (because of its heated history with App). We’re not here to hold hands and get along, we’re here to compete.
6. La Tech football has been weak the last few years but they do have history and in 2025 their basketball and baseball programs were both good. So adding them strengthens baseball which is the conference’s second keystone sport and helps in basketball too.
7. Could’ve done better…with who? Talks with WKU allegedly went nowhere (they’re tied at the hip with MTSU and adding both would’ve meant adding three to get back to an even number, which is not a feasible option) and adding an AAC school is a pipe dream as things currently stand. Ohio was apparently an option but they wanted to be football only and doing that would push the conference out of its southern geography and alter its identity.

1. Yes men dying of thirst will take water from their mortal enemies. La Tech only had a change of heart once circumstances changed not in their favor.

2. Well we know how La tech thought and acted for the previous 30 years. La tech had ample opportunity to publicly support UL/ULM for cusa inclusion and/or sun belt merger and we all know what they thought of that

3. I understand this. I think they are wrong on the long term benefit of this though.

4. The east made smart ad valorem decisions where proximity was a factor but also new markets and growing universities.
La tech is none of those things, it’s a third university in a small and poor state in a market the sunbelt has covered 30 miles away.

5. Being good at essentially a non revenue sport doesn’t move the needle athletically. Institutionally they fit the west but so do lots of schools wku, Ohio etc

6. My personal preference is to do nothing for a couple of years (don’t just do something, stand there!) but I could have seen wku or ohio more favorably. New markets wealthier states. Ohio in particular is at the upper end institutionally of Sun belt schools
