Bball Games of interest

Unread post by Saint3333 » Sat Jan 25, 2025 12:18 pm

#3 Texas St @ #2 Ark St -9.5

#1 USA @ #6 Troy -4.5

#5 Marshall @ #7 GS no line

Great opportunity for us to get a game back or cushion on three teams today.

If we want a top two seed need USA to start dropping some games. I don’t see us catching Ark St.

For a top four seed it would be fine is Ark St and USA win out.

Can’t remember where this was talked about on the cabin but it was about SBC seeding in the NCAA tourney.
I saw a projection last night with S. Alabama as a 13 seed. I believe Ark State/S Ala. have the only chance to be a 12-13 seed. Any other winner is probably a 14 at best but most likely destined for 15-16.

This weekend:

Most of the better to date teams are playing teams in the bottom half this weekend:

T3rd ODU @ T3rd JMU
1st Ark St. @ 8th Texas St.

Five teams tied for 3rd, must win the home games vs. bottom half teams to keep pace.

In reality two games separate 3rd from 12th.

Looks like all the higher seeds will win.

Ark St. and Troy seem to be separating themselves as the 1-2 seeds. USA is struggling and will likely fall from a top 4 seed. Down the stretch I'm not sure App has the depth to get a 4 seed, so I see 3-4 going to JMU/Marshall. JMU has the easiest schedule remaining. Those App/Marshall games the last two weeks will be huge.

A third or fourth seed would limit the tournament run to three games. A fifth or sixth seed would necessitate four games, which makes a long stay in Pensacola more perilous.

Cooper Flagg is a damn good bball player. Hope App. St. does not see Dook until the final four...going to be a tough out for us...

Margins are slim for everyone.Losing two I don't think we should have might bite us but my flight to Pensacola is booked.

Question is which day do you plan to arrive?

That’s part of the conundrum with this format . I plan to arrive Thursday. Gill is blowing another opportunity to build interest in Sunbelt hoops.

Hopefully flying in Friday is safe for our fans (no worse than 6th seed).

I think the new format is ideal for conferences like the Sun Belt.

As for scheduling uncertainty, Pensacola has an abundance of quality hotels. Consequently, fans can wait until the week of the tournament to book their rooms. Last year, Hilton also allowed my wife and me to cancel our reservation without penalty after the Apps lost in the semis.

I’m not sure any location is going to be a huge draw for the tournament.

New Orleans, Atlanta, Birmingham, Grenville, where are some places that should host?

Couldn’t pay me to go to Pensacola.
Greenville would be a good option. But competing with Women’s SEC tourney I believe. All the good sites are taken. Top choice should be to alternate wherever the SEC doesn’t go, Nashville or Atlanta. Nashville, maybe New Orleans for the west side of conf. to make them happy and ATL for the east side of conf. to make them happy.

So, I used AI to find the center point of both the East and West divisions. The center point of the East Division is Salisbury, NC, and the center point of the West Division is Brookhaven, MS. Based on that, the Sun Belt tournament should rotate between Winston-Salem and Jackson, MS if we are trying to most accurately pinpoint locations.

Jackson is not a city I’d travel to.

Yeah, might have to work on that one a little bit.

Edit: I did a little more digging and Baton Rouge, LA is only 25 miles further from the center point. That sounds more appealing than Jackson.

Stayed in BR when app played LaLa in championship game. Not a bad city, however, if we had to do it all over again, would have stayed in New Orleans (versus BR) and drove to LaLa on GameDay.

I like the idea of rotating, wonder if venues would go for that?
