If Texas State leaves...

What are the likely scenarios for how it could effect the Sun Belt?

I think that the easiest solution is to get rid of divisions.

It needs to be a basketball school....are there any of those that fit the bill?
We've got to improve SBC's basketball product. 1 seed leagues destroy regular season attendance, media publicity, fan support, money...etc.

Florida Gulf Coast? If only they had football.

Belmont would be a great basketball add. Nashville/Tennessee market.

Maybe UAB, WKU most likely.

If you want to keep the geographical footprint and bring in schools we good/decent basketball programs and good/decent (or could be) football programs.... then hear me out.... Liberty or UNCC. I know the hate is coming, go ahead.....

Great options. Ironic that both of those have better baseball programs than football/basketball IMO. Liberty might have better football than baseball. But solid selection and would create some great rivalries and fan support.

Just make sure you don't do harm to the football side trying to build BB. Look what the ACC did.

Just my opinion. Football is driving the bus. The first option in today's market should be to find a football school. .. basketball is second. If you add a basketball school, it is not going to move the needle on getting more than one team in March madness....and doesn't drive revenue like football.

La Tech or WKU are the most realistic adds, but CUSA did sign a GOR last year so even those schools may be harder to pull now. Perhaps staying at 13 would be the move?

All of the possibilities listed here sound like an upgrade over ULM. I don't understand how they survive in the SB. Are they ever good at any sport?

I would think both LaTech and Liberty would be hard no’s by the SunBelt as a whole. A lot of bad blood from old Sun Belt towards LaTech. And no one wants Liberty. Western Kentucky has a legitimate shot, though. I think we’d have to at least offer to ECU. Geographically it works for them, but not sure all other factors do. If Jacksonville State remains at top of CUSA in football, would they be considered?

It's very unlikely that the Pirates would move under the current circumstances. ECU would lose around $5M a year in TV revenue (since they're a legacy member), and they'd have to pay $10M in exit fees for a 27 month notice. It would be even higher for a shorter notice.

True. SBC is a step down in pay for them and the piggy bank is empty after paying Houston’s buyout.

And regarding Liberty, would any SBC school want a conference foe with P4-caliber facilities/support and virtually inexhaustible resources?

The divisions in the Sun Belt Conference are the only divisions that make any sense, because they are regional. Central and Eastern Time Zones. All the other conference divisions were not regional. I think they could get a school out of C-USA in that area fairly easily.

HaHa. My bad. No thanks to that as well. UAB is my first option. But, would it be a logical move for them?

Good for them. Not really sure I'd notice. Certainly not in any hurry to replace.

I get that. Didn’t say it the right move or one without issues. It’s just the easiest in terms of hoops that would have to be jumped through to get them back to even. The Sun Belt is the last conference with divisions so it would be an easy rationale to get rid of them.
