He said he thought it had some legs. This would allow CAA to have two seven team divisions, which would lead to two games in your division and one out each season for basketball. This would also allow App and JMU to satisfy the alumni push for FBS football without decreasing travel costs for the other sports.
CoC having a special meeting today. Have to think the long awaited announcement will finally happen and ECU won't be far behind them. What other options does ECU have? Davidson and App would then be on the clock.

App State to the MAC and CAA?
JMU board has an interesting rumor putting App in the MAC for football and CAA for everything else. It's simply a rumor but an interesting one nonetheless.

Given the travel costs, I see that as last ditch, desperate move also.

I think that would be awesome.
Do you guys realize that the MAC champion will be playing an a BCS bowl game this year against the ACC champion?

Re: App State to the MAC and CAA?
love the idea, the CAA is a much better basketball conference, would love to have JMU and ECU as rivals, the MAC/CAA are much better academic fits than the SBC, travel for football is the only down side.
Re: App State to the MAC and CAA?
That is actually the best scenario I have heard. I like it all the way around. It would be much better than CUSA, IMO.

Not saying it is going to happen or it's even the most likely - but it's a creative answer to move us up and not really sacrifice much for any one thing (IMO).

Not a big fan of split memberships, but that is a scenario I could live with. The MAC has some impressive wins this year, and as already mentioned, if Kent St. wins tonight and Stanford beats UCLA then Kent St. will play in the Orange Bowl.

I believe that possibility is gone with Louisville winning last night which looks to secure that last BCS bid ---
Also looking at the bowl predictions it seems the MAC and SB basically play each other with a lower ranked CUSA team here and there - I see no games for either conference against a "name conference" - again these are just some ones guesses but probably close to accurate ---

its wishful thinking, the Mac is in great shape, they are stable, to this point not losing any members, great basketball conference, football is good, great academics, mostly a strong regional conference, has good tv markets, etc, at this point the can afford to set very high standards about expanding. I bet right now, Marshall wishes they had never left, how much you want to bet their Chancellor has called the Mac begging to come home. Ha,Ha,Ha

Louisville will still get a BCS bid, but Kent St. will finish higher in the BCS rankings than Louisville, and inside the top 16, thus guaranteeing them a BCS bid.WVAPPeer wrote:Gonzo wrote:I think that would be awesome.

Re: App State to the MAC and CAA?
So many ideas out there, it is really hard to speculate. The MAC has been very quiet in all this realignment talk. I don't think they are in a rush to add anyone because as far as I know, they are in no risk to lose anyone.
That being said, I would definitely support this theoretical. The MAC is a stable conference and the CAA would be a move up for all other sports. I still think ECU will end up all-sports in the Big East but with us, ECU and CoC along with UNCW, the CAA would be a solid 2-4 bid baseball conference.

MAC May not be in a hurry but their divisions are out of balance.
6 in 1 div and 7 in another.
REally - 8 and 8 would be ideal.

Re: App State to the MAC and CAA?
There was some talk about this earlier in the year, with conversations taking place with CAA about full membership. Many on here thought that if we could find a place to park football, CAA would be perfect for our olympic sports.
If this has legs, adding JMU, Delaware and AppSt to the MAC would be tremendous for ASU Football with a conference that's clearly stronger than CUSA or SBC.

Re: App State to the MAC and CAA?
Listening to 730 AM from Charlotte yesterday, a writer from Fayettenam said ECU would "park" olympic sports in CAA or Big South. We are in other conferences for field hockey and wrestling, would they be in CAA now?
