Put us back on the schedule one for one, it's pretty simple. Baseball too while you're at it.

Re: GA State doesn't want GA Southern in SB
While I am at pretty much every Charlotte Baseball game, I have no clue about that scheduling to be honest. I don't know why we don't play you guys and Davidson all the time. It makes too much sense I guess. You guys had a good year last year.Saint3333 wrote:Put us back on the schedule one for one, it's pretty simple. Baseball too while you're at it.
As it applies to Basketball: Yes please. I like being able to travel to games. Only problem is RPI, but I don't understand how our AD can use that excuse when we play other Socon teams that aren't called Davidson. We threw Kennesaw State a bone for their D1 qualifying, but if we keep going down there I'll be upset. You guys have finished strong, while we have tanked. That was a fun series though, and one I'd like to see again.
Re: GA State doesn't want GA Southern in SB
Hello, Charlotte grad and fan here. This is an interesting discussion but I would like to put my two cents in. I have no clue what our administration thinks about this but I do not know one single Niner fan that would not love to be in a conference with App St. We were sickened when ECU left CUSA. Our biggest hope was for App St. to join CUSA as well. Why? SO WE COULD ACTUALLY PLAY SOME SCHOOLS CLOSE BY THAT WE KNOW. After several years in the A10 playing the likes of St. Bonaventure, St. Josephs, Fordham, Lasalle, Dayton, Duquesne, etc., nothing would make us happier than a conference rivalry with a state school or schools close by. I think it would be really build exposure and excitement for all the programs involved. My biggest hope is that within the next 10 years these crazy conference alignments fall by the wayside and the lower tier schools like us, App and ECU can be in the same conference together to build rivalries, allow for lower costs and allow for great travel opportunities for our fans. Charlotte and App and ECU are NEVER, EVER going to play at the top level of football or basketball. So why not enjoy regional rivalries. My best case scenario would be Charlotte, App, ECU, Ga. Southern, Ga. St., ODU, WKU, MTSU, etc. to be in the same league so I can drive to lots of games. That is why I wouldn't have minded AT ALL if we had been able to join the Southern Conf. I really care little for conference climbing. We went through that with the old CUSA, and where did we get. Nowhere. Give me local rivalries with schools that I can relate to. So the bottom line is I am sure most Charlotte fans would be really happy with App. St. in our conference. If you join the Sun Belt, I will be disappointed, but only because you are not in CUSA with us.

Welcome to the board Niner92.
Hopefully we will all three be in a league together down the road. The hate fest that could come from Mountain/Piedmont/Coastal representatives in one league could dominate college football in this state. Hopefully, common sense will one day prevail.

App, UNCC, ECU, MTSU, WKU, ODU, JMU, Marshall, GSU - this conference makes too much sense and therefore will never happen.

We can sit here and speculate all day, but it will never happen as long as arrogant decision makers like Judy Rose are around.

Re: GA State doesn't want GA Southern in SB
At this same meeting Judy indicated Sunbelt and so did a couple of Trustees..........You may not have been under that impression but your administration was prepared to take a Sunbelt invite and CUSA was late to the party after they realized that Louisville was going to the ACC. The CUSA invite was a last minute surprise. Judy is passively out to cut out APP because we would not schedule Charlotte in football without recriprocity in other sports. She does not want competition from App in the market. What she does not realize is the economic benefit of establishing a regional rivalry. Her panties are just a little tight.ImfromClayton wrote:June 1st she has a vote. I would consider ECU to be much more Charlotte's rival than Appalachian. We have shared a conference with them before, and are about to do it again, even if it's just for a year. We play them in most every sport, most every year. If you've never checked out a Charlotte/ECU game on the hardwood, you should. Most of them will tell you we are usually the biggest game on their schedule they feel like they have a chance in.Rekdiver wrote:It was a private setting for scholarship donors and she was dismissive of ASU. She could not lobby against us as she has no vote but she said and I quote "They have a nice little program and stadium up there but it's too hard to get to for Sunbelt Schools (Last Spring they thought they were going Sunbelt) and we see ECU as our rival not ASU"
At no point were we under the impression that we were going back to the Sunbelt. We went from FCS independent to C-USA. Not to go on another fan bases board and call bull stuff, but your story has gotten milder and milder from the get go. You say the above comments are "dismissive" but in reality, that is the stereotype of App State. We all have to fight them. The stereotype of Charlotte is that we are a commuter school. In all honesty neither of these are really true anymore, but they are perception. Did you specifically ask Judy about App State? If so what is she supposed to say at an event aimed at Charlotte boosters? This just seems an incredibly sketchy situation to me. Judy Rose and Charlotte are not out to get Appalachian State.

ECU would never be a part of that and can't say I blame them. I know a lot of App fans think we are equal with them, but we're not. They have 30 years invested in playing at a high level and their fans would not accept them falling back to that group. Replace ECU with Ohio U or Delaware and it is more likely, but still makes to much sense to happen.Saint3333 wrote:App, UNCC, ECU, MTSU, WKU, ODU, JMU, Marshall, GSU - this conference makes too much sense and therefore will never happen.

I wonder how Judy feels about App holding a practice in Charlotte, would have loved to have been in that room when she found out. Whoever came up with that idea is a genius and deserves a raise, hope we will do it every year, if for no other reason just piss UNCC off.

Please give an example of Judy Rose arrogance. One piece of real evidence. Not hear say.Gonzo wrote:Precisely.Saint3333 wrote:App, UNCC, ECU, MTSU, WKU, ODU, JMU, Marshall, GSU - this conference makes too much sense and therefore will never happen.

I just don't understand why you guys think all this stuff about Charlotte? I read this board for a long time, as my brother, and mother went to App.

I'm not the one quoting hearsay, I'm the one that doubted she was making serious attempts to block us out of CUSA.ImfromClayton wrote:Please give an example of Judy Rose arrogance. Now when it comes to her being arrogant, at least towards ASU, you better believe there's evidence. Look no further than her refusal to schedule App in ANY sport and her policy of rejecting a football game without a home and home. Who the hell does she think she/UNCC is?

I can respect that about C-USA. Thanks for clarifying.Gonzo wrote:I'm not the one quoting hearsay, I'm the one that doubted she was making serious attempts to block us out of CUSA.ImfromClayton wrote:Please give an example of Judy Rose arrogance. As it applies to ASU, I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record here, but do you have any evidence that Charlotte refuses to play Appalachian? I'm not disputing your comments, but I'd like to see that. What makes you say that it is 100% Judy Rose' fault that we don't play you guys?

It seems only a couple of posters get into the UNCC bashing. IMO- Most are like me and spend zero time thinking about what UNCC does or doesn't do.

I wish UNCC good fortune, but see little reason to bend over backwards to accommodate them until they get over their ignorant self imposed superiority complex. A change of administrators would do wonders.

I have thought a lot of the same things that you have stated here. I don't know what the admin's of either schools think, but I think the fans would love some in state and near-state games.
I also think that with all the conference changes people may lose interest in college sports altogether. Yeah the students may keeping watching and some teams will have fan bases large enough to make money on TV, but that will be it.
Look at the ACC, I think adding some of the new teams made the conference less interesting to watch not more.
In the end, to the schools that are not competing for a championship every year, it's about the local fans being able to connect and take part.

Re: GA State doesn't want GA Southern in SB
I am not aware of any superiority complex. Maybe you have run into some odd niner fans or someone who works for the school. Most of us feel damn lucky to have a football team at all and are grateful for it. I honestly thought it would never happen. I think we have long term potential to build a solid program, but I'm not looking for miracles. As for the others who posted that we were destined for the sun belt and then Cusa fell in our laps I really don't see what the big difference is. The sun belt would have been fine. What's the real difference between the two? Is CUSA pulling more $$? I see little to no difference in the leagues. Both are a step down in basketball from the A10. We have accepted that fact as a price to pay for gaining football.
To the last poster. I totally agree with you about connecting with local fans. This should be about students and alumni having a good time at the games rather than all us smaller schools fighting over table scraps left over by the big schools.

Wellllll, as an ASU grad I may not be as smart as a UNC-Concord grad haling from Clayton....but you could start by looking at the schedule! ....in any freaking sport!.....and then look at the historical series...in any freaking sport....You played us at one time, and I hope you are required to play us again someday....in the same conference!ImfromClayton wrote:As it applies to ASU, I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record here, but do you have any evidence that Charlotte refuses to play Appalachian? No thank you. I'm never in favor of pols getting involved in athletics scheduling, Especially on our behalf.
