Virtually no one thought bringing in App. St. and Georgia Southern was the end of the SBC. As I recall, they thought it was helping to save or enhance the SBC. Not sure where this fictional history is coming from.

There were a good number of fans at mainly Louisiana and Arkansas State that were very vocal in their opposition to App and GS. They wanted to follow the CUSA Market model. None of them like to talk about those comments anymore.

That's different than a conference folding because ius and Stink joined the conference.
There are typically always schools and fan bases that may not want a particular team to join a particular conference. Happens every conference realignment.
