WKU has a better basketball program than anyone else in the Sun Belt. 24 NCAA tournament appearances, 8 times in the sweet 16, and one final four. Great attendance also.

They do have a very strong basketball fan base even with the two blue bloods in state. Similar to us in that respect.

I won't be mad if it helps the conference shift away from Texas. Costs for running an athletic program are increasing rapidly, no need to pay for long trips if we don't get some sort of benefit from it.

How can our athletic department possibly benefit from flying teams to play Belt conference games in front of 10k for football and maybe 1k for basketball?

Totally agree. Think the Sun Belt is in really good shape no matter what happens next. I just keep wondering what happens if the ACC loses members?

Not to mention field hockey, tennis, golf etc...Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 2:34 pmHow can our athletic department possibly benefit from flying teams to play Belt conference games in front of 10k for football and maybe 1k for basketball?
Not to infer that these aren't important but less cost with even or better competition wouldn't hurt.
Plus, how much recruiting do we actually do in Texas? For any sport.

I’m told Texas State is negotiating with the PAC-12. If they leave I suppose they will be replaced but only because of the divisional format in football.

I tell you if we lose TSU and boot ULM to add ECU and Memphis then that would be a massive upgrade.

Memphis wouldn’t bring their basketball program to the SBC.
ECU and Charlotte would be more likely but that would mean 3 teams in one state which may not fly either.

I won't really miss them if they leave. We've all discussed the possible CUSA teams we could grab, and all of the top contenders would be no worse than a lateral move plus they'd all shrink the footprint significantly.
