Do some of these games and records of teams show the depth of our team? While others faded over the last 5-6 or so games we got better. A few have absolutely imploded in their bowl games. I agree with the assessment of a few of you- if we played in normal conditions we would have blown out Miami. Those passes in the flats where our guys slipped would have been catches.

Losing to ODU was absolutely our worst loss.

My son and I went to that App game at Charlotte years ago. Even though it's a glorified high school field it is kind of quaint.
I hope that is our losing to Liberty in 2014. Where we can look back and be, for the lack of a better word, thankful for that loss.
You've got to learn how to win. ODU was learning point. Saturday was as well. The 2024 team is going to be stronger because of it.

Lets face it, the sunbelt east wasn't necessarily stacked this year so these bowl losses aren't a big surprise.
Coastal 7-5, lost final 2 games heading into a bowl
ODU 6-7, lost 3 in a row after beating App
GaSt 6-6, lost last 5 games
Marsha 6-6, was 2-6 over final 8 games
Southern 6-7, lost last 5 games.

Glad we turned things around unlike most of the other teams in the East. On to 2024!

It also shows in the portal situation for us at the moment. Graduating players allowed to play in the bowl shows loyalty and respect while players sticking around like Joey shows that there is more to our program than others. It speaks to the quality of the people at all levels.

Go App!
I give it 50/50 at best that Joey is on our roster come the fall. He definitely will be on P5 radars and that NIL money will be hard to pass up as it's likely his best shot at any kind of payday.

So you realize how many QB's are in the portal from P5's? Everyone is looking for the next Burrow or Brady from this group. doubtful JA will leave when guaranteed playing time is here that will give him a look at the next level

Speaking of JA. I was just looking at some of way too early NFL draft prospects sites. I don't see JA on a single quarterback list. He would be eligible for the 2025 draft correct? Surely some of these projections have been recently updated. Hard to believe he's not a top 20 at the very least.

The pros usually know, if he isn't on a radar..........but he's been great for APP

I worry that Joey may be perceived as somewhat of a system guy considering that the past two years that Ponce has been our OC both of his qbs have set new passing yard records and of course Joey also set the App TD record. System guys always get discounted.

Money can be a very motivating factor but unless there is a guarantee to start somewhere else I just don't see him leaving.

There's something like 30 QBs in the portal, all with playing time and many with out the "Gun Slinger" label

How many quarterbacks transferred last year from good G5 schools (and up) and made perceived lateral moves or perceived moves up but saw their playing time decrease? How many entered the portal and didn't land anywhere? Unless he gets a financial offer he can't refuse or a slam dunk starting gig at a good P5 why leave? We play some marquee games next season and our brand is established. Why leave App a middling P5 and help lead the team to a 5-7 record?

This is a dead issue as Joey has already committed to stay next year and is getting NIL from us. There was a good write up about it on 247 and I think it was open for all to see. He said some really meaningful things and made it clear that he wasn't leaving App. While anything can happen, I am as sure as I can be that he will be back at App next season.

Although I agree with the statement...but if UCLA comes offering $2 million (Yes, I get it seems far fetched), he would have to consider it.
Nothing is 100% unless he has a sign contract with school (not nil) that he cannot get out of. If that is case, then dead issue. If not, I am in the 90/10 confidence range.

Marshall is a below average G5 team the back half of this year. Ali is a stud, but others need to step up.

Well, Marsha did not help the SBC cause.

Wins: Appalachian State
Losses: Georgia Southern, Louisiana-Lafayette, Old Dominion, Marshall :?
Remaining teams: Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, James Madison, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy

There seems to be a big difference in the level of SBC play in the first half of the year versus the second. Could be impact from the portal and some teams getting better as the season progresses versus plateauing early.

Saturday is a big day, need to go 4-2 at a minimum.

Some of these teams are reinforcing the notion that there are way too many bowl games and it's often ridiculous that a 6-6 team- especially one on a 4 game losing streak should play in a bowl. I totally get it's a "reward" for the players but damn if you limp through your conference games and end up at .500 you probably either aren't very good or injuries are killing your roster.
