49ers Aim High in Recruiting

Unread post by RankinApp » Sat Sep 29, 2012 12:22 am

Justin Bridges-Thompson is excused from watching film and lifting weights on Sundays with his Spartanburg High football teammates.

He’s got another commitment: playing drums at Green Bethel Baptist Church in nearby Pacolet, S.C., where his uncle is the preacher.

“He has to run a few laps each week for missing that,” said Spartanburg coach Freddie Brown. “It’s OK. He’s taking it for the Lord.”

When Bridges-Thompson isn’t banging on the drums, he’s playing defense for Brown’s Vikings. A 6-foot-3, 210-pound safety, he’s the sixth-ranked college prospect in South Carolina, according to Rivals.com and the 39th-ranked player at the position in the country.

He’s also committed verbally to play college football for the Charlotte 49ers, a program that begins playing football as an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision program in 2013. But they’re also preparing simultaneously for another leap into Conference USA and the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2015.

Anyone who thinks the FBS label isn't going to help Charlotte is fooling themselves. I don't know how competitive they will be in CUSA, but they are likely to field a much better team than if they were FCS bound.

He's the kind of kid we need. Reminds me in someways of Corey Lynch.
