According to ESPN,the stink will apply to be allowed to play in a bowl game to the NCAA if they are winners of the SBC regular season.

Good luck to them. I doubt they will get it, but if they do, more power to them.

I'm sure the NCAA will give them a look considering they have played the toughest schedule in the Belt this year and are playing the top two teams in the conference on their home fields in back to back weeks......oh wait...... ;

Umm... WHAT? So with a few weeks remaining in the season, the NCAA is going to just arbitrarily scrap their own rule because... why exactly?

If Benson didn't already see the need to add someone - anyone - as a 12th member so the league can play a championship game, this should make it crystal clear. Those guys claiming the league "championship" without playing either of the other top two teams was already a complete joke; now they're going to bump another bowl eligible league member out of a bowl game because of an 11th hour rule change?

Then again, it's the NCAA, guess I shouldn't expect anything they do to make sense.

I would do this if I were them. Nothing to lose at all.

Benson this week said he would not support GS getting a bowl bid over another established SBC member, he also implied he wouldn't petition the NCAA to change the rule in mid season, basically, as far the SBC is concerned, GS is on their own. If you really want the pros and cons of this argument, go over to the SBC message board, they have be arguing for the last week, GS posters against everyone else. Personally I could give a rats ass whether they get a bid or not, just worried about us, but whether happens, most, but not all, the GS fans who post on the SBC board, are quickly becoming the most hated fan base in the SBC. Knew it was going to happen, just didn't think they would get on everyone's nerves so quickly.

I hate it and would rather cut myself than see them get one but Benson is being a Puss. Somebody approved their schedule. If you wanted to be sure they don't make the conference look weak then make them play a tougher conference schedule.

Benson destroyed the WAC. The sooner he is gone from the Sun Belt, the better off the league will be. I don't recall clapping for him when he was on the field for the USA game. Go Apps!

From what I heard they will apply for An exception only if there are not enough qualified teams to fill out the bowl schedule

I saw that this morning too on ESPN and say Hell yeah they should apply to get an NCAA waiver to go to a bowl game. It might be a lower level toilet bowl, but if the NCAA cannot fill them all...
Hey, GSU is undefeated in the Sun Belt you know. Yep their conference schedule maybe does not include the next 2 top conference teams...good planning on their part possibly (Hope they are not that good). They almost are undefeated overall & I watched most of the both games they lost & IMO they definitely could not have choked and would have won at NC State & GA Tech.
Bottom Line = It is great to be a Mountaineer!!!, and I hate them inbreed SOBs from the Stink, but I do respect them, and know they will do the right thing, and if an appeal is an option to get to go to a bowl they will hire some more lawyers to do it.

to be honest I hope they lose next week, I'm so sick of this discussion on the SBC board, they have been bitching and moaning for the last 3 weeks, they never shut up about it, they just keep making the same dam points, over, and over, and over, dam, I've never heard such crying in all my life, but GS only half the problem, those fans from other SBC schools, will not let it die either, just a bunch of idiots on both sides who must have the last word.

We would be doing the same thing if we were in their position.

Why wouldn't we if we were them and there are bowl games available?

sorry, not going to get sucked in any deeper into this pointless discussion, (now regretting posting anything on this board) you guys want to jump in, I'm sure they are discussing it on the SBC board, have at it.

This will only happen if there are not enough bowl eligible teams. They can not jump over a bowl eligible team.

Whoa, I was not calling you out or anything. I have not read the other boards and may be ignorant I guess. GA Southern Sucks IMO and I just said we would try to get to a bowl too if we could. Why is it "pointless" if there are not enough eligible teams for the bowls and they are discussing it on ESPN today?

You seriously think there wouldn't be at least a 300 post thread on this if we were in the same position? Of course there would. There were at least 300 posts to fire the entire coaching staff 5 games into this season...trust me-people would be clamoring for it.

If there aren't enough bowl-eligible teams, GSU would already be eligible. That's been the stipulation since before the season. Why would they need to apply for an "exception" that they already have?

They wouldn't. That is what I am saying. If there are bowl eligible teams there is no applying for an exemption and if there aren't then they are eligible.
