I don’t think Shawn Clark is the answer to our future, but comparing our situation to Charlotte’s is a bit silly. Clark is a consummate professional and great ambassador of our university. Even in our blowouts I haven’t been embarrassed having him at the helm.

Poggi is a circus act that only deeply unserious programs like Charlotte would ever consider hiring. I give them absolutely no credit for firing a guy that should never have been hired in the first place.
Exactly, and just because other programs fire a coach and bring in new blood, it doesn't mean they are going to leap frog us or instantly become successful. (They may, but look at how UNCC didn't improve from Lambert to Healy to Biff). They've gone from P5 coordinator to young up and coming, and strange CEO type.

Yes, ECU made a change and gained some wins. But, they are against 2 and 3 win teams that Mike Houston may have picked up W's against anyway. (UTSA is the only FBS team they have beat that has even a .500 record)

And, not saying we don't need to make changes, but then you have the Marshall situation. Huff's 7-6, 9-4, 6-7 (6th in the East) seasons had some Marshall fans begging for a change. Now, his team is 7-3, 5-1 and has all of it's goals in front of it this season.

This is all true. Huff is in year 4 thought and I think you have to give a coach 4 or 5 years, even in this portal age, unless they are someone like Poggi who never should have been hired.

Wilkes would be a great traditional coach, not sure he wants to recruit and fundraise.

It’s a different beast right now.

Wilks should still be about eight miles down Tryon St.

COACHING CAROUSEL: Skip Holtz, Steve Wilks potential candidates for Charlotte opening to replace Biff Poggi

Wilks has even less to gain than Holtz here...especially at CLT. This is a puff piece by some cub reporter trying to drum up readership for a dying newspaper.

Just saw Charlotte finally ended the Biff Poggi clown show. Honestly, with our struggles was hoping they would keep him around for another year.

EZU & UNCC have both made moves. Ramps up the pressure on Doug I would think.

GO APPS!!

Clark is done. This is his last home game. They’ll let him finish out the year because he’s an App guy but the decision has been made from people that will write the checks.

wonder if a bowl game would have changed minds like it did last year. But if Clark was coaching for his job on Saturday- he definitely needed let go.

The decision was basically made after the Louisiana game and one or two board members in particular pushed Gillin to move on from Clark after the 11/7 coastal game so we could work on finding a replacement. Gillin and some on the board were against firing Clark midseason mainly because he’s one of us.

Several influential board members wanted to use that bye after the coastal game to get things kick started.

well I hope Gillin used his time wisely between the Louisiana game and now because its a busy offseason in NC this year.

We should have acted then if the decision was made. All it did was cost us time and some money (which those pushing the decision would have had to pay) and now we're up against signing day and the portal.

I think it was the right decision to hire Clark when we did. I think we also gave him time to prove himself and it did not work out. I also do not mind that we held on to the end of the year. He is a former player as well as a former position coach. That deserves some allowance.

We did right by Clark and I wish him and his family well. And I am also glad he is not longer the head football coach. Hopefully we find a great coach that we can afford, will run a clean program with students graduating, get us winning again, and once winning he will stay around for a few years. That might be asking for a lot but hopefully it can happen.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

I know we are all focused on our own search now, but the Charlotte search appears to be a mess.

In the last day alone there have been three public declines from:

Neal Brown
Tony Gibson
Bobby Petrino

The declines are embarrassing enough but the leaks are even worse. Almost feel bad for their fans. What a clown show their Athletic Department is.

I’m not usually one to embrace schadenfreude. But we’re talking about UNCC, so I will…just this one time.

They're gonna end up offering an FCS head coach.
