I know it's all about the money, and the Pac-12 is worth more as a brand, but I wish it was the other way around. Oregon St. and Washington St. should join the Mountain West, making them the better conference.

Well this is the first shoe to drop related to this one...More teams will be added...gives good mwc teams a chance at new conference leaving the not so good programs in mwc behind..
A little bit of risk ..but I think it is a good move. If ACC blows up, who knows where the two West coast teams move...may not be back to PAC ..but you never know

Do we think this will affect other conferences? To me this is the last bit of realignment from a year ago and the next big realignment is yet to come.

This is a nothing burger to me. None of them are marquee programs. They won't be considered a true power conference by those that move the money. It may be a small boost to those mountain west teams, but in the coming years they will be relegated to the G5(6) level. I'd be extremely surprised if they can weasel an auto bid. This won't be landscape shifting like when the pac12 broke up.

As far as the ACC goes, I think the brakes have been hit for now. I think the interest wasn't as high as they thought and didn't realize how hard core the politics were going to be. When it is truly attempted, I think the lawsuits are going to be wild and extremely costly, and if my tax dollars are used instead of donor money then raise the pitch forks and get rid of the attachment of college sports to colleges. Let them be theie own entities and pro leagues.

I could see Stanford/Cal going back to Pac12 but money becomes an issue there. Maybe landing the Vegas market in UNLV, Utah State too. Would be a solid G5 conference but for a P5 it would be weak.
Hope they don't snag Texas State or UTSA.

ACC took a hit when FSU and Clemson started 0-3. The two teams suing the ACC trying to get out of the conference were 0-3 at one point and the 12 teams not suing were 12-0. Karma!
If the SEC or Big10 wanted Clemson or FSU, it would have already happened.

What is the criteria for the PAC to obtain and likelihood to regain the Autonomous status?

That is part of my point. It will more than likely be adding other G5 teams...
Although it could happen as noted above...if ACC goes away, the two West coast teams go to one of the Big conferences or SEC. However, apparently, the Big 10 did not want those two West coast schools. Personally, I believe those two schools are more aligned with G5..they have been fortunate (like the vandy's and wake Forest of the world) and history on their side.
I think the play is to try to make this PAC conference the premier g5 conference like AAC was when Cincy and UCF were in that conference..time will tell

Cal and Stanford don’t align academically with these schools. I can’t see them going back

So you're telling me we get to host a Pac 12 team in 2027!?
Hope this doesn't effect our Boise series.

Just seems like a dumb move. That conference still has to add a couple of teams to be viable for the CFP. Who would be left out there? I agree why not go the opposite direction and bring the MWC up? Seems like some delusional people out there. It’s all pointless anyway as in 5 years there won’t be the traditional college football except for the mid and lower level teams. There will be some 40 school semi pro league- if that many schools.

If App, Marshall, ULL, Texas St., and JMU had the option to land a couple of ACC leftovers and leave the ULMs of the SBC we'd do it. Makes sense for those at the top of the MWC.

MWC can backfill with UTEP/NMSU from Conference USA. And then I can see them adding the Montana’s and possibly the Dakota’s. Would be a formidable conference. CUSA likely doesn’t need to replace the two they lose.

What concerns me is the current playoff format 5+7. PAC12, while maybe power in name only, will likely add UNLV & Airforce to get to 8, retain their automatic CFP bid, and shut the door on a G5 spot in the CFP.

Remarkable how close our G5 is about to look to what was 2000-ish level FCS.

Does Boise back out of the game in Boone now?

Not sure if it would impact our game. They need non-conferemce games regardless of conference they are in

Are you assuming that the MWC members get absorbed by others and dissolve?

I have my doubts that the new PAC gets back that autonomous tag with this new lineup.

This could change, but I heard a discussion on SXM College Sports recently that the Pac-12 still has the P designation and that they had two years to come up with something. If that is true, then they will still be a P, even though the others may not like it.

I think the PAC12 joins the G5.

Hawaii and New Mexico could be the odd couple out and NM lands in CUSA with NMSU, Hawaii goes independent and eventually drops football.

The P2 plus the M2 aren't going to concede any power just because MWC teams change the conference name.
